Stewart Mandel has a pretty good article on this topic. But the final line in this is telling! Why Hate the Irish
Here is an interesting adjunct to Mandel's article. It involves the conversation about ND's perceived "weak" schedule, which also is a myth. The following facts are derived from the page 7 of the 59-page .pdf file entitled "2009 Notre Dame Football Notes" which can be found on the ND Football website: Here is the web site for anyone who might be interested: Notre Dame Football
I envy the money you guys get, but that's it. But then again... I have no hatred for Notre Dame so maybe that makes me different.
Scott, I imagine you are one of about a half dozen folks in the country who neither love nor hate the Irish (just kidding).
I absolutely relish living in the heart of ND hatred. Visiting SoCal this weekend was interesting. So many of their fans now believe they haven't lost to ND in 15 or 20 years. (I'm not kidding).
Ha! I can honestly say that the reason I always disliked the Irish is because they kicked the crap out of us and everyone else for years. Speaking as a long time Cane fan I remember when we were on your schedule every year and the term "easy win or patsy" would have been a good description. It was like a guaranteed loss for us every year because we didn't stand a snow ball chance in hell at winning against you. Then years later when we did win a couple it was like taking down goliath and incredibly sweet. RC
I actually miss the ND-Miami series. It had taken an ugly, but entertaining, turn in the 1980s. It's a shame that we can't seem to bring that back.
