Keep in mind that the Nev. QB was 6' 6" and weighed 220. On more than one occasion he was able to fight off the blitzer and make a play. I'm guessing that the game plan was to try to get to him often but if he eluded the rush, he couldn't find a receiver behind the D.
Now I saw some clips of the Mich. game. These fros QBs are delicate tasty meat, just perfect for our blitzing LBs. If we get to them, I doubt that they'll be able to escape. I think that coverage will be much tighter this week.
We did shutout Nev. didn't we?

Gips analysis is pretty much what I've read from "knowledgeable" posters. Just no way that Tenuata was going to give the Nevada QB any opening to make a big play. Chase him down with the blitz, if he gets away make him complete the pass in front of the DB's. Some say that is why the middle was open to the Nevada RB.

Most expect a different scheme for Michigan.

    Gip...

<t>I watched the game twice. I like you know the final score. My point is play our DBS versus teams that can throw and protect like we did Sat we are in trouble. Hope you are correct about changing up cause 8-12 yards off receivers you get beat.<br/>

By the way I am happy we started the year off the way we should.</t>

I agree we can not have as our strategy to give WR's 10-12 yd cushions all year. Esp when the supposed strength of your defense is experience and talent at CB and Safety.

I expect we won't see that as our base alignment.

This is a copy of my post in another topic:
    'Nuff said.

I don't have a problem with the way our DBs played yesterday. Let the opponent complete all the 6-7 yard passes they can under constant pressure from the front seven, and make sure your DBs keep the receivers in front of them. With the talent and depth we have in the defensive backfield, and unless the opposing QB is perfect, eventually he will make a mistake, and we will capitalize.

Like Gip said, we pitched a shutout against a very prolific offense with a seasoned QB.
