8) here is Lou Holtz.....on prime time ESPN......stating in a most forthright way, albeit thru an illogical argument....that ND will play in the national championship !!!! I said.....Duh, what did us say??? But then....I thought was his agenda was....and decided he's one smart fox for three reasons. Here goes 1. Lou Holtz gets attention....thats always good in the media and he needs attention as he is a massive failure as a sportscaster until he takes out all the marbles in his mouth. 2. Lou will make a lot more money.....and this one is right on.....as the ND Boosters worldwide will book ihim for speaking engagenments....at 50K a clip Lou just made an easy million new bucks. 3 Then, there is a third occult reason......Lou has a fantasy that he will coach ND once more......so.....by putting ND in this season's NC game, knowing that Weiss is already on the hot seat.....may help none other than LOU have a shot. but, be it as it may.....can you imagine ND playing the Gators or anyone else for an NC?..what would the score be at halftime, 42-0???? Go LOU....you are one smart dude
No numb nuts, he said that because of the ND schedule this year that they have a very good chance of being in that game. He specifically said it wasn't that he thought they were one of the top 2 teams, but that their schedule was favorable for an 11-1 or 12-0 season. A couple of years ago a lot of people were saying that WVa was a good choice for the Nat'l championship game, again not because they thought they were one of the best but that they a had a schedule that was favorable for an unbeaten season. They almost made it, only the upset by Pitt in their last game kept them out of the BCS Champ game. Lots of people last year said that Texas Tech had a great shot at the BCS championship game, again because of how their schedule set up ...and like WVA and Notre Dame this year they had a very veteran offense coming back.
8) I stand by my theory.....yours is the easy interpretation but my thoughts are that Holtz is devilish in what he said
Gonzo, you are overthinking. The reason Terry's interpretation is the "easy" one is because it is the most logical.
It's because that's what he said. I can't quote him exactly but before he said it he aknowledged he's going to get a lot of emails/letters, but that the veteran Irish are set up for a 11-1 or 12-0 season. He said that with the exception of USC they will be the best team in the stadium every saturday, he was clear that he didn't mean that they were one of the top 2 teams in the nation, just that the schedule was setup nicely for them to have that kind of season.
Gee, Terry, you don't think Gonzo would leave those salient facts out of his "analysis" just to make his point, do you? Naaaaaa. Bill, I should have rephrased my comment to remove the unintended inference that Gonzo's post contained logic.
Lou looks at a couple of things. First ND plays USC, BC and MSU at home. Second. all three of the above and Mich. will have first year QBs. Third, he hoped that even Miami fans might be able to comprehend the ND scheduling opportunity. Guess Lou got 2 out of 3. Obviously the situation was too deep for the Dade county mentally challenged.
Now Gipper, that bordered on being a personal attack... Oh, never mind... it was accurate and truthful and that is a defense to defamation. 8)
