to accusations by the President that children get their tonsils out based on the economic needs of the surgeon and that Surgeons peforming amputations get 50K per leg. His attempt at demonization of the medical profession in an ill advised attempt to bolster his position on reform is deplorable. ACS Responds
And we're surprised? He came into power with all of two years experience at the government level, most of that spent campaigning. Obama is nothing more than a rank amateur and a socialist idealist. Outside of oratory, he has no skill set whatsoever. And he's not even good at that without a teleprompter.
Actually his statement about the tonsils was really off base. It's starts off with a young patient who has complaints about a sore throat. I hate to tell the president but these complaints aren't made to a surgeon. They're made to a primary care physician. If the primary care physician refers the patient to a surgeon, he doesn't get any more money. In fact, if it solves the problem, he or she will probably have less future complaints about the throat. Anyone who knows this little about how medical decisions are made and who makes them should not be trying to revamp our health care system.
