Though a bit dated this info just came to me today: Talk show host Todd Jeffers, the host of "Jeffers and Company" on AM 1600 WKKX, passed away at his home in Wheeling. He was 67. Jeffers passed just nine days after his good friend and colleague George Kellas lost a battle with cancer on February 19. Jeffers lived alone at his home in Wheeling with his two parrots. He was a big Penn State fan and was once the voice of Penn State men's basketball and wreslting. Jeffers' radio career spanned five decades. He once worked at what used to be known as WHLL, now WKKX. The cause of death is still unknown, although we're told, he had a history of heart problems I'm certain many of you from the Prodigy days remember Tod As bombastic as he could be on the boards he was really a nice guy .I met him several times over the years when he lived in Columbus and I'd be down for a game. I really enjoyed his company! Anyhow I thought I'd pass this along to you folks.
Corey only recently had emails start bouncing back to me from him but that was just from his one addy and not the other as I would send to both the addys I had for him I figured he got the other. Was starting to make plans to head to State College for the Nits Bucks game and had been in contact with him earlier this year as I recall now it was several days before his passing and we were starting to make plans for a get togther. Hell as thick as a brick I am I wouldn't have even known this if your dad hadn't written me and let me know he hadn't heard from Tod in awhile. All part of this vast panaramma we call life I guess.
Wow that is a shock. I had some battles with Tod over the years, but as you said once you got to know him better he was a really interesting person. I wish I had saved his treatise on college bands, he posted it one time here and it was epic. He didn't much care for them. His account of his drink off with you (the poster formerly known as G By the Dome) was one of the best things I've read, it was hilarious. I wish I'd saved that one as well. Some of his stories were very interesting, he had met guys like Joe Namath and Joe Paterno. The last time he was on here was when Andy died, I emailed him about it and he came over here and made some comments. I think he was the only poster who had actually met Andy. Tod did have a scare with a heart attack, maybe 10 years ago, so I would be suprised if that wasn't the cause of death. RIP Tod. Terry
: omg... I have to tell Joco ... he and Todd were constantly online with each other .. I know wow he is going to be really upset Corey may need some back up tonight ...... Today is Jocos first day of school w/ students
I had many talks with Tod behind the scenes about his parrots. As stated before, he loved birds and so do Cindy and I. What is it with PSU fans on this board? :? This news just validated further the need for the past trip to Kansas City and the need for more like it. Don't be afraid to take the initiative like AJ did.
G-Man ... so Did he pass away in March .... I think Joco talk to him after this /Love Ya ...... Di......
J. Jeffers <t>Wow, what a shock. I remember him going all the way back to the prodigy board days. Definately had some battles on the boards with him but very sorry to hear it.</t>
That's to bad. 67 is young. See ya Reverend. He has a son somewhere he always talked about. Wonder if contact could be made?
Terry...funny you should mention the "drink off" post cause that was the first thing that entered my mind when I read the ob. Here I was quite proud of my description of our meeting(more or less trying to out JO'Co JO'Co) and then Tod comes and makes his post that completely blows me out of the water. Love em or hate em he was a guy that lead a full life.....by the way that band post of his was good also
It has been some time since I can remember Todd posting, but he was always ready to take people to task, but always willing to dabate any subject as well. Whobedis, thanks for sharing the sad news. Don
I did not know him except as a poster. I did not have any conversations with him. What I remember is that I sensed that as argumentative as he could be, if he was your friend, he was really your friend. That's old school friendship, the best kind. R.I.P.
Sid, Tod was opinionated. However, when he was wrong and you pointed it out, he was also not above setting the record straight. Tod was harsh at times but he was also a teddy bear when you got him talking about his birds. Everyone, or at least most everyone, has that soft side. It just takes a little work to find it some times.
If you search 'Tod' up above, you can take a quick trip down memory lane. His posting about women is something I wish I had read 15 years ago.
Truly sorry to read of his passing. He was certainly one of the more memorable posters on Prodigy and the SB.
I had a couple of minor skirmishes with Tod as a Prodigy rookie. He hd a a lot of depth and experience. Rest in peace.
Wow that is a shocker. 67 is way to young. I didn't know he had done all those things with his radio life, and I didn't get to know the side of Tod that a lot of you did, it sounds like there was a lot of depth to Tod. May he Rest In Peace. Gator Bill
