ESPN has an article, actually a series, where the premise is that Div 1 needs to be split in to the top 40 teams realigned into 4 conferences of 10 teams each. They proposed the 40. The said the rules will require you to play 9 conference games, and you can only schedule 1 game/year outside the top 40. That you will have to play all the other 3 conferences on a rotational basis like in Pro Football. No Conference Championship games, just straight into to the playoffs.

Here's the link to the chosen 40:

What an absolute waste of time.
Some of their reasoning is ridiculous...

I'd be OK with actually going to something like this with 64 teams, but 40 isn't going to cover it...

I see 9 out of 12 SEC teams made it. Mississippi State, Kentucky, and Vandy lost out. I don't know about you guys but I think 9 is a stretch.

    From the East:
    Tennessee
    Florida
    Georgia
    South Carolina

    From the West:
    Alabama
    LSU
    Auburn
    Ole Miss
    Arkansas

Ole Miss, Arkansas, and possibly South Carolina is a stretch. I am not trying to validate this scenario. Just saying that those three, IF the scenario happened, could be replaced with better teams. If we don't take the last 25 years into account and only look at the last three, you could take out a few more that I won't mention but they are at the top of both above sections.

2 teams that were so good that they'd play for the NC the following season.
