I see that UF finalized a new package for Urban. It makes him the highest paid SEC coach at 4M/year. For some reason I thought Nick Saban was at 5M/year, but the article says he's 3.9M/year. The mentioned that Pete Carroll is the highest at 4.4M/year.

Hard to argue not making him the highest paid coach given 2 Nat'l Championships in 4 years.

Man......That's going to make it awfully tough to woo him away from Florida to ND. What do you think, AJ?

Wow Terry you are fast, I was just going to post this.

According to ESPN Carroll and Weiss make more money than Meyer.

    Here's another link.

Hey Sid, I imagine paying to buyout Charlie's contract, paying Meyer enough money to buy out his contract and a new salary making more that either are making now could cost a bundle. :)

Of course they could throw in the DVD of the Gator Bowl. :)

Top Tier coaches just don't move, they'd be stupid to do so. I know that everybody always wants their team to hire from the best out there, but the bottom line is that there is very little movement at the top.

Nick Saban once at LSU wasn't likely to move to Alabama unless it was how things unfolded...that is he tried Pro Coaching and didn't like it so moving back to college meant his old job at a top school wasn't an option. Alabama's good fortune.

These guys only move 1 direction and that is to the NFL. USC, Ohio State, ND, etc all found out that they had to take their chances with somebody who was not on the list of the best coaches. Even Mack Brown who was at UNC would not have moved to Texas if his AD had agreed to give more support to the football program. Franchionne would not have left Alabama for Texas A&M if it weren't for the Alabama probation.

I'm sure there are some exceptions, historically, but in todays football it's not happening.

What are you trying to do Terry, bring logic to an emotional subject?

I agree, the Gators found that out when we thought we could just swoop in and get Stoops. We ended up settling for Zook.

We got really lucky though when we got Meyer, that hot of a prospect just doesn't come along, at the level he was at, all that often.

Meyer leaving Utah, and Rich Rodriguez leaving WVA are to be expected. They went to top tier programs with more money, more facilities and access to better recruits. Greg Schiano at Rutgers is a guy who you could maybe put in that category and if Kyle Whittingham and the guy at Boise State continue to have the success that they are currently having they will also be candidates to move to upper echelon programs.

I can think of a few potential exceptions. If either Steve Sarkesian or Lane Kiffin have success at Washington and Tenn respectively they will be candidates for USC if Pete Carroll either retires or moves on to the NFL. Of course if he stays another 10 years then if those guys are still at UW and Tenn then maybe not, just as Les Miles did not hear the call to Michigan when it came.

I agree Terry. Surprising thing about Schaino is he stayed at Rutgers and did not even interview with Miami. Maybe he can build a power there but I'm skeptical.

    Very good point Bill.

A lot of Gators including me thought Stoops was G-ville bound when Spurrier left.

The same sorta feeling ND fans will get about Urban should Weis leave Notre Dame....

I felt the same way about Stoops, in fact remember when some reports said he had signed and even who the assistants would be.

However at this point I doubt to many Notre Dame fans would feel Meyer was coming if Weiss leaves. I think that's been pretty well put to rest.

Don't think so. Those who might have had that thought should realize once and for all after the raise that it ain't gonna happen.
