You know when I read that Tim Tebow may be the greatest college football player ever, I pause. He's a great college football player no doubt. But it's really simplistic to try and say anybody is the greatest ever. It's almost like saying that Barry Bonds is the greatest player ever because he's hit more home runs than Babe Ruth. So I saw this on one of Notre Dames greatest players ever, Heisman Trophy Winner, 3 Nat'l Championships, 2 All-Pro Selections. AA on offense and defense. Lettered in Baseball, Basketball, Track as well as Football. Of course in the modern game it's hard to play 2 sports much less 4 so no modern athlete is going to be able letter in 4 sports, nor are they going to be able to be AA on offense and defense. So it's not really fair to say Tebow didn't do what Lujack did, or that Lujacks stats aren't as good as Tebows. Great football players and athletes: No real need to say somebody is the greatest ever. Johnny Lujack
I remember sitting by the old PHILCO radidio listening to Harry Wissmer, and/or Bill Stern broadcast ND games in late 40s... Johnny was a good one!!
I didnt see jim...my dad did , however. He came to Brown stadium a couple of times with The Carlisle team :!: :!:
 funny story about Johnny Lujack........ My Dad lives a Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage (Palm Springs)...... There was a golf tournament (he lives on the east course 3rd Hole) a few years back ... he and a few of his local friends were watching the tournament on his patio ... when these 2 gentleman came up asked if they minded if they joined them in a few cold ones before going on......One of the gentleman was Johnny Lujack .... my dad got a great kick from the stories / not sure if my Dad told them he is an USC alum ...or that before my dad was drafted (WWII) he was an all american high school quarterback being recruited by ND ... USC was the choice when he came back from England... since his family lived in L>A>
no my dad was a high school all american quarterback from washington high school ... when he was drafted (WWII) 1 wk before graduation when he came back ... he was 21 and usc offered him a full academic scholarship..... My dad is a civil engineer .. the school that was recruiting him from high school was Notre Dame not usc.....after the war playing football just wasnt his passion any more ,building things was his new passion he worked on the Aswan Dam in Egypt... and anyone that has been in Oceanside and seen the rock sea wall built to protect the coast is another one of his projects
