Colin Cowherd made that statement and when you look at what is going down this season....and consider all of the BCS success in the SEC of recent years you would have to agree. There is a lot of drama going down over the next few months in the SEC and it's going to be fun to watch. http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20090706/ARTICLES/907069903
He absolutely jumped the shark today attacking the MWC. He laughed off Utah's schedule and then made the specific mention that they don't play a schedule as tough as Texas......... He even went so far as to mention Texas A&M as one of the 'big teams' on Texas' schedule last year. (no offense Scott). I like listening to him but he's clearly in the Finebaum category to me. He's a flamer who likes to stir the pot. The difference between the two? Finebaum admits it.
I realize Cowherd stirs the pot. Corey, you've come to the defense of the idiocy that ESPN "forces" Mark May and Lou Holtz into but you think less of Cowherd for "stirring the pot." That seems a little flawed to me. Anyway, I agree with most of what Cowherd says here. However, I think Ole Miss is overrated this year. I think they're a bowl team and will do well because of their QB but I don't think they'll truly challenge for the West.
These guys know what sells. the more they can get people to "hit" their sites, read their rags, or watch their shows, the more they are valued by the sponsors. It don't matter if you are PO'ed at what they say or in love with their ideas, they just want to be heard.
Oh don't get me wrong Aquila, they are very much one in the same animal. The point I was making is that Finebaum readily admits that he is stirring the pot, whereas I've heard Cowherd claim that he is not doing that...and objectively analyzing the situation
Gotcha, Corey. I happen to like Cowherd's show and I think it's one of the best on radio. He's entertaining and he takes a lot of the peripheral aspects of sports into account. Some don't like that about his show but I think it adds to it.
I do too. He's hilarious. I don't mind that one bit. Finebaum is far less funny, but probably better at stirring the pot.
The animosity angle that Cowherd talks about is interesting. I agree to an extent with this because it's the hubris....the loyalty to one's team.....the rivalries that energize college sports and the animosity to me is not real....not to be taken seriously.....although some people do take it seriously.
