Somebody at Gainsville.com got a copy of UF President Bernard Machen evaluation of the "National" Universities for the USNews College poll. You know the one where mostly Ivies and Privates (Duke,ND,Northwestern,Stanford, etc) and a few select State schools make up the top 25.

The ranking system is from 1 for marginal to 5 for distinguished. The link is to Machens evaluation form where he ranked only the following as 5's or Distinguished. Talk about being a homer! Oh yeah he ranked perenial top 25 Notre Dame as a 3 or "Good".

    Stanford
    Cal Berkley
    Yale
    Harvard
    MIT
    Michigan
    Florida
    Princeton
    Columbia

    Machen Ranks the Schools

Also interesting is the cover letter that says this is all confidential ....oh yeah.

He ranked Florida ahead of CalTech, Univ of Penn, Duke, Northwestern...

But to be fair, I wonder if we'd see the same sort of homerism on the ballots for the President of Texas, North Carolina, Virgina, Georgia, Alabama, etc...

also, we don't know what criteria he used in his rankings.....mullets, jorts, natty light, beach access? You just don't know....

I have seen this posted on several sites and the reaction has been pretty universal.....nothing wrong with loyalty except that it tends to corrupt the integrity of the polling and the value of the rankings.

Agree, besides in reality how the hell does anybody really know enough about all of the schools on that list to make a fair judgement?
