I watched the Skins game last night, he was in the foursome with Tiger and he hit from the same tee's as they did, sure they were min 50yds ahead of him but even given all his physical problems and being 70 and not playing all that much anymore he showed me he's still got some game. It would have been interesting and fairer if they would have let him hit from Senior Tour Tee's but he probably wouldn't have stood for it.

The weather was miserable yesterday at Muirfield, but the course looked beautiful and deadly as ever.

Stu, BuckeyeT have either of you guys played it?

Many years ago, when I worked at a local bank in Columbus, my boss was a member and he let me do the Memorial pro-am and our team won! Lon Hinkle - remember him? - was our pro and he and the other guys carried me around the course to victory! Got a nice golf bag and cool bag tag I still carry to this day.....one of my lasting memories was that I kept telling myself that I've putted on many greens that were less well manicured than the fairways and tee boxes.....it really is extraordinary how well they maintain the place.

I almost got to play it once...a buddy of mine had one of his clients invite him to come and bring a friend (me)...date was set and tee-time made and then the member client had emergency eye surgery and couldn't play...so had to cancel.

I have walked it several times during the tourney...it is a beautiful place.

Here's a familar face with nephew Matt at the NCAA's. It turns out that Jack still has his hand in college gold, that he was one of the big advocates pushing the NCAA to go back to a match play format for the finals.

That's the point, Tigers playing partners have a tendency to be invisible. Exceptions of course when he's playing with somebody like Phil or another big star.

Tiger played with Mike Letzig. He bogied 4 out of his first 6 holes and had fallen out of contention before TV coverage began. There were plenty of golfers in contention bunched up at the top of the leader board. Why would we want to watch some guy who was shooting a 75?

True. It always seems odd to watch Tiger seemingly playing alone when it's the back 9 on Sunday. It's almost like the TV people say to his partner...just stay out of the camera angles please.

Did you see where Tiger hit every fairway yesterday? What a great round to have before the US Open. He's nearing that "Tiger of old" level. Bad news for the rest of the field.
And what a shame about the finish by Davis Love.

Yeah hitting 14 of 14 fairways is good even if you are at the driving range! :)

Davis really fell apart on 17 and 18. Also Furyk missing that put on 15 cost him a chance at a playoff.

Being from New York have you ever played Bethpage?

I played Bethpage years ago. It's a large complex with, at least when I used to play there, 5 courses. You'd get out there early in the morning and sign up and have about 3 1/2 hrs. before your tee time. Of all the courses the Black course had the least wait because it was such a bitch of a course. I played it once with a terrible game and had a miserable time. I understand that since then (the 70's) they've done some alterations making it even longer.
Commish plays out there quite often. No carts, ya gotta walk. He's strong enough to play it and break 85.
There was an entertaining book by Finestien called The Open that talked about getting it ready to host the tournament. It was the first open at a public course when they last played there. (they've of course also since played at Torrey)

I see that Tiger made a stop at Bethpage Black yesterday to get in a round. I wonder how that works at a public course when a big star like him wants to play a round, do they work him in with an open threesome, or do they bump some people off and let him play by himself?

I'm guessing that it may be closed to the public for certain times of the day for practice rounds if not completely closed.

Turns out the Black course is closed now till after the Open and that it's not open on Mondays for play anyhow.
