That was quite a marathon battle last night between Texas and Boston College. Game finally won by Texas 3-2 in 25 innings. (Longest game in NCAA history) WOW!
Whoa...25 innings that's a really, really, really long game. Maybe Corey can answer but how the hell does a reliever pitch 12 innings? I thought those guys training was designed to give them short stamina but could go multiple nights in a row...good recovery. I remember reading one time where they were thinking of making an Astro reliever into a 5th starter but said it would take awhile to "stretch" him out. What's even worse is that BC has to play an elimination game with a rested Army team today, and the winner plays Texas for the title.
Terry, I know several of the Aggie relievers were also starters. Still... that is a LONG time to be throwing the ball. The kid probably shouldn't pitch again for a week!
Holy Batman... After yesterdays 25 inning affair, today we have a beat down of epic proportions....Fla State is leading Ohio State 35-4 in the 9th inning...damn.
Well the slaughter is over 37-6. We really only had two strong pitchers and one real closer. By the time we battled back today and beat Georgia, we had no one left and it was batting practice for the Seminoles. I wonder if Florida State set some type of record for total runs scored and hits? Don
Don and BT, It may have been a beat down but ask yourself: How many teams are here and how many teams didn't even make the trip?
UF women's softball team pulls one out in the bottom of the 7th....down 5-2.....bases loaded.....here's the pitch.....BAM.....grand slam to win it!
Thanks Tom, point well taken. We did manage to hang around long enough to eliminate the other two competitors in the regional - a good Marist team and a very good Georgia squad - but FSU was clearly the class of the region.
According to USA this morning, Florida State did set a new NCAA record for runs scored (37) and base hits (38 ) in a nine inning game. The previous record of 35 runs scored was held by Miami. Don
