Another NJ kid joins The Irish! Hoboken's Kamara chooses Notre Dame Wednesday, May 10, 2006 BY MIKE HELFGOT For the Star-Ledger Hoboken receiver Duval Kamara, one of the most sought-after juniors in the nation, will announce that he will attend Notre Dame in the fall of 2007 during a press conference at the school today, according to a person familiar with his recruitment. The 6-4, 205-pound Kamara, a Second Team All-State selection last fall, became the second top New Jersey junior to make an extremely early commitment to Charlie Weis, Notre Dame's Jersey-bred coach, in the last week, joining Camden Catholic tight end Mike Ragone. The person requested anonymity to maintain his standing with the Hoboken program. The commitments won't become official until national signing day next February. "These are the type of recruits Charlie Weis has to sign if he wants to upgrade his program to the elite level," said Allen Wallace, the national recruiting editor for Scout.com as well as the editor and publisher of Super Prep Magazine. "These type of players usually wait to make their announcement, so to see them go public at this early date shows how aggressive and well-organized they are." Kamara, who's been a varsity starter since his freshman season, has had a fantastic high-school career. He made 39 receptions for 775 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior as Hoboken went 12-0 and captured the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 title. Also an outstanding safety, he has 14 career interceptions to go along with 24 touchdown receptions, but his future is undoubtedly on the offensive side of the ball. "He's the kind of athlete that can go anywhere he wants," Wallace said. "He has nice hands, he's competitive for the ball and he seems to have the ability to outmaneuver defenders."
I don't think Charlie is going to have much trouble with recruiting QB's and WR's. I just hope we see a bunch of Defensive Studs in this class to go along with the offense. Terry
Charlie again is beating out the schools like Miami, Florida, Penn State etc for quality recruits like this one. He is a preseason Top 100 on everyones list and could go anywhere he wants! I don't know what this season or next will be like for sure but with the way this guy recruits, ND's long term future obviously looks very good indeed!! Keep bringin 'em in Charlie. Tim
