was on Finebaum yesterday and said that he heard 'This time next year, he understands that Meyer will be coaching at Notre Dame. He even said it was his dream job and he won't refute that.' People are still a bit angry at SOS about this. I think it is funny.
I got 10 bucks that says if Charlie doesn't produce this year, they'll (ND) will propose an all-time contract offer to Urban for 5 years - 100 million.
I don't know what will happen if Charlie fails this year, and also I'm not sure what the definition of failure will be for him. For ND fans 8-4 will be firing territory, and 9-3 pretty heavy grumbling. But for the AD if your coach goes 8-4 and wins a bowl game do you fire him, esp when his buyout is pretty hefty? I hope we don't find out. Also as to whom the AD will go after, maybe Meyer would be that guy, but I'm not sure why he would leave UF at this point for another college team. I know sometimes coaches are tempted to go back to their Alma Mater, sort of like Les Miles was when UM finally hired Rodriguez. But ND isn't Urbans Alma Mater, he was a fan as a kid. There will be much speculation on John Gruden who is available, he like Urban was a ND fan as a kid and his dad coached at ND under Ara. The question is Chucky mentally suited to the College game? He has been a idol of many fans, I think Aquilla said he was high on Tenn fans and Gruden coached at Tenn and married a Vol Cheerleader, I believe that when UF fans hoped either he or Stoops would come when Spurrier left. You're on, big guy. No money will ever change hands. Charlie might fail, but UM will never coach at ND. I suggest that, 1) ND would not offer him the job, and 2) If ND would offer, he would decline. ND would probably go after someone like......like......Bo Pelini. I like Gip's suggestion.
Yeah Bo Pellini, he'll have a couple of years in the B12 at Neb and I'm sure he'd like to move closer to Ohio and he's a good Catholic boy no doubt! I like that, Bo Pellini the next ND coach!
I'll back Husker's bet with $10 of my own to anyone who thinks Meyer will never coach at ND. I've been telling you all for year its coming. Charlie hits a HR this year ( 9 wins + a bowl win ) or its goodbye. And Hello Urban. And you would be nuts not to welcome him. I'm warning you in advance. Don't take this bet!
Doing my saturday morning "drive-by" and can't get to the yard work because of rain. IMHO ND ain't gonna be flat this year, but if the unimaginable happens and cw gets his big payday I just wonder about this little school slightly north and west of SB that operates along the same lines as ND hmmmmm could lightening strike twice?
And there you have it.... http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20090515/ARTICLES/905159933/1136?Title=Meyer-denies-interest-in-Notre-Dame I suppose this kind of thing may go on forever.....unless Weis takes proper advantage of a doable schedule this year with a veteran Qb. Even if Weis fails I don't think Meyer is ready for a change of scenery just yet. Let's envision for a moment that he did make this change at some point. If he keeps on winning which I suspect he will then the Florida job if ever vacant would attract the top college coaching talent in the country....whoever that may be at the time. The guy may not be Meyer but whoever it is would have a great opportunity.....as did Meyer.
Interesting thought, Whobe, but I'm not sure the coach of Grand Valley State is ready for the pressure cooker of Notre Dame. Seriously, you bring up and interesting possibility IF CW doesn't make it beyond the next couple of years. He's definitely a comer and has done an excellent job at a school whose academic standards are similar to ND's. I like the "lightning strike twice" comparison.
Sid....should we consider this a history or geography lesson  I liked that about Grand Valley State
Grand Valley is NE of South Bend. WBD is trying to tell us that the University of Chicago Maroons is ready to rejoin the B10!
Thunk! I finally figured it out WBD. But, even if Weiss falls on his arse, Fitz will stay at NW. Of course, there is another great ex Wildcat coach that might be interested......
I was just thowing a line in the water, BT, to see if Corey was awake. We have had a running discussion for over a decade about my merits of coaching hero-GB versus his- Slick Rick.
Well here I sit in Paducah Ky and got lucky that we have wireless internet and I get to read more about Meyer leaving for Notre Dame. Corey, I believe that is a misquote of what the Ole Ball Coach said and it's pretty well covered in the link MCG gave. Ain't gonna happen.
