No.. not at The Players today because ESPN did not report anything like what I am about to report below. I was playing golf with my 21 year old son today and on a 535 yd par 5 I was a good....unsatisfactory distance away for my 3rd shot which was approx. 185 yards. I pull out the 4 iron...had a slight wind behind and I visualized al la Davis Love's make 'em tips how I would hit a shot so sweet that I would make it for an Eagle 3. Low and behold.......we watched the flight....the trajectory....the final roll which we could barely see and damned if it I didn't sink it for an eagle 3.... So much fun.......
I once hit a 5 wood in the hole, but unfortuneately it was for double bogey as I had hit 2 tee shots OB. Congrats on the Eagle.
I've been close about three different times for a deuce on a par 5....long shots that disappeared at the hole and all three when I made it to the green were directly behind the pin so they appeared to have gone in. The green on the hole yesterday has a drop off and the pin was in the back and somethimes you think you are dead on the stick or in but you get up there and find it really just dropped off the back edge which is always disappointing. So I told my son I thought that was what had happened and after dropping him off in the front bunker I immediately went around to the back and told him to expect it back there but when I got there it wasn't to be found so my hopes went up and I approached the hole with unrealistic anticipation because let's face it....shots that go in from 185 yards are pretty damned rare but there in the hole it sat. Amazing!
