They are playing at Prairie Dunes, it's a links style and not very long by todays standards 6500 yds. But the weather today is 40 and winds at 25mph gusting to 35. I'm sure there is a reason why they are playing it there, no doubt there is something to playing in B12 North country once in awhile, but it sure seems like it would have made more sense to play it in Texas. I went last year and it was at a course outside Huntsville, a beautiful course, and I'm sure the players enjoyed it a lot more than they are right now!! So far it's early, but only a few guys under par.
Doc, your write up doesn't do this course justice. Prairie dunes is a hell of a course. Annually ranked in Americas Top 25 course and hosted the U.S. Senior Open in 2006, and the LPA U.S. Open in 2003. True links style course in the middle of the Kansas heartland. As you know, links courses force you to alter your game if your used to the Treelined shoot away courses we usually have.
I've actually never played a true links style course. I got a look at Ballybunion when I was in Ireland a few years back, they were playing the Irish Open that week so I couldn't play. . For somebody who is used to those tree lined courses it looks freaky weird. I would imagine that wind is worse on those open plains of Kansas, not to mention tornados and hail and lightning!!
Sand Hills. I've heard AJ talk about this place. There are some great shots of it if you follow the link.

Matt finished tied for 16th, it's his best finish ever in the B12 golf tournament. He finished higher than any golfer on the Neb team, he did say though that all the Neb golfers were equiped with portable DVD players to watch the Gator Bowl DVD while waiting to play their next shot. Next up will be the NCAA regionals. Hopefully his steady play at this tournament will keep him on the travel team for that, I don't know where the Aggies will be sent but they will make the Regionals. They are a top 15 team.
Damn, I'm sorry about that Doc, I should have remembered your nephew. Tell him I said good shootin' and that i wouldn't even send my own son to NE (for golf). He's would go to OSU, Texas, Purdue, UCLA, GTech, Wake or (gulp) Florida.
Where is Taylors golf game these days. I seem to remember that when you were in AZ he lost some of the zeal and played baseball. How old is he now?
Taylor's 13. He'll be 14 in Sept. I almost made a mistake a few years ago by turning it into work, so I let him call the shots for what he wanted to do. He's interested in FB BB BB and golf. The transition back to Missouri last summer took us out of the summer schedule, but I'll have him back at it this year. You'll get to meet him in KC in July. I'll let him show ya what he can do from the mound. If I'm lying, I'm dying. Last year he played with his Junior Ping set. He's way past that now. To get a feel for what he should be hitting, I let him swing my clubs at the range last month. I have CLEVELAND CG4 Tour Irons with stock stiff steel shafts. I hit my 8 Iron on average 155. The kid is 10 yards longer with my own clubs. I'm not shittin' ya. That's the bad news (for me) The good news is I don't have to invest in a new set (not for him at least!) I thought I was just stiff or missing the ball. So I buckled down and made smooth, full passes at the ball. 6 outa 10 times he was longer. My pride was affected in opposite directions at the same time. Does that make sense? Anyway, he's let me know that he's interested in moving forward again with the golf schedule. We'll see.
If Taylor wants to play college golf at the schools you mentioned he's entering a critical period. He needs to play a lot of golf tournaments and start to get noticed.
