... yea but he is going to the Lions. What can he do on a team like that? Similar comments were made in the draft about 11 years ago. Don't judge Stafford by his first three or four seasons. Let's see what the Lions can do with him at the wheel while they build a team around him... as long as his line doesn't get him killed in the process. :?
I think Stafford is a talented kid with real potential. But he is going to a completely inept franchise. Here is a team with the worst defense in the league, maybe of all time, and what do they do with their first two picks? They take a QB and a tight end. This is a team that has not been able to run for a first down on 4th and 1 in a decade. Their pass rush protection resembles a row of pylons. Of course in practice, that's good enough because their DL can't beat a pylon. Offense sells tickets. Defense wins championships. There's a reason why they haven't won a championship in half a centruy. They're f'n idiots.
I think Stafford may well be very successful in the pros. That is if Detroit can protect him. However there is no comparison in his college career and Mannings college career. In my mind Manning was a can't miss. Stafford is a likely success, which would be enough for me if I had an NFL team.
He has a big time arm.. I hope for his safety the Lions decide to start competing at the other 21 positions
This kid just got $78 million for six years, $42 million of which is guaranteed. Why would he care who he plays for or how well he does? He has no incentive.
Manning was a big time player in college.....more competitive fire and toughness than Stafford and he would have won the Heisman had he been able to beat Florida. At this stage of the game Stafford is a work in progress....an unknown. I can't get over how he was so non-competitive vs. Fla and Bama last season and if he thinks the Gators and Tide had tough Ds he hasn't seen anything yet.
