Name me 2 pitchers that hit 25 Homeruns following their position change from pitcher. (To easy) What player has hit 30 plus homers in their 1st 8 seasons?
I just went and checked and they're both right. Did someone else hit 30 homeruns in their first 8 seasons too?
I haven't tried to figure this out yet, but I'll bet that there are two or more players who have done it. If not, it's a heckuva good stumper. My initial guess would have been the same as Aquila's, simply because of the source of the question. How about Stan the Man, one of my two childhood idols (the other being Ernie Banks)?
It sort of depends, there are a lot of sluggers who didn't play much in their first season in MLB, maybe came up in Sept. Mark McGwire is a guy like that he hit 49 hr's as an "offical" rookie, but he played some the year before.
Maybe I'm wrong. I thought Puljos could tie it this year, maybe he's already working on 9. The other one to my knowledge is.....?
Actually, I ran across this while checking to see if Pujols was the right answer. He is the first player in MLB history to hit at least .300, hit at least 30 HRs, drive in at least 100, and score at least 99 runs in his first eight seasons. Wow! If the guy is really only 27 and is relatively PED free, he will go down as one of the all-time greats in the game. I'm certainly not a Cards fan but more power to him. He's never been linked to my knowledge with PEDs. I don't know who the other is and I haven't run across it yet... Assuming he hasn't already been mentioned here by the other guys, I'm gonna guess....Lou Gehrig. Wow! Way off on that one! Hmm...one more guess and then I'll just wait to be told. Mickey Mantle. I'm off to check.... Way off again, now I'm going to cheat but I won't ruin it for anyone else.
I heard it wrong on TV (frickin' Al Hrasbosky).. Puljos has hit 8 straight 30 + to start a career....Gehrig hit 9 consecutive in his career, but not to start. Maybe it was my Beer ears and not Al...
Glad I finally checked back because I would have been searching for a while. I can't believe I came close on Gehrig though. That was a shot in the dark.
Re: Puljos The Kid is a STUD though, and it's not just his bat either, he's a really good defensive 1st Baseman.
Yeah, he's the best in the game today. You don't have to look past the NL Central to find a guy who is on track to challenge his record of beginning his career with 8 straight seasons with 30+ homers. Ryan Braun has 30+ in his first two seasons.
Come Sat Morning my partner and I have the first draft choice in our fantasy baseball league, Pujols is going to be on our team!
Aquila, that was an excellent guess on Gehrig, primarily because 30 HR seasons were not nearly as common in that era as they are today.
I think you and Sid are the only Fantasy Baseball players in the group. It just seems like it would take a lot of time if you were serious about it.
I'd get in on a fantasy baseball league if there was enough interest. I do one every year with 7 guys that I play fantasy football with. It does take a lot of time but if you can take about 5 mins. and set your lineups in advance, it's not as bad.
