Tommy Tuberville's staff is the highest paid in the country, according to budgets obtained by the Indianapolis Star. Tommy T and staff had a total budget of $4,938,831 in the 2004-05 school year. Private schools are not required to report their budgets (USC is among those). Auburn is 26-4 in its last 30 games including 2004 when it couldn't break into the BCS title game despite going undefeated. Then there was Texas which converted the No. 2 budget into a national championship. Mack Brown and staff made $4,887,932. The rest of the top 5 -- Tennessee, Texas A&M and LSU
The piece above came from a Dodd column on Sportsline.com. He lifted it from a Indianapolis Star March 30 '06 article, "Colleges Play, Public Pays". I hadn't seen it. Interesting read on Student Fees and taxpayer subsidies. There are links to some other documents. Check the annual athletic budget for UM, OSU, versus the rest of the Big 10. Small wonder. PSU was not surveyed as PA (and DE) law doesn't require them to. Private colleges (ND) didn't respond either.
I actually had all my teeth removed. It's much nicer to just grind gums. My friends and I had a field day with that article when it first came out. Of course, we will kick your butts in women's soccer, tennis, softball... Talk about bang for you buck! Bill Byrne's motto should change from "Bulding Champions", to "Spending like the Champions we wish we were"...
