I haven't heard it, but it could arise from the fact that Saban spent a few years at Michigan State, and if he and Izzo were friends, he might have suggested that Bama make a run at Izzo. Just speculating.
It is all over the talk circuits here. If this happens, you can cement Nick Saban's status as the most powerful man in college sports
There were "Izzo to Arizona" rumors back in November, but that talk quickly ended. I would absolutely love to see Izzo take over the program. I'd be happy with Randy Bennett - and guys like him and Scott Drew are the sort of coach I expect Arizona to land, but coaches like Izzo, Few and Dixon have the recruiting power that comes with name recognition. The "Rick Pitino's wife is house-hunting in Tucson" rumors are all the rage currently. I love internet euphoria.
Here's a little Izzo trivia that I find impressive. Travis Walton is a 4th year player on MSU. He has never been to the Final Four. Every other 4 year player who has played for Izzo at MSU since he became coach in 1995 has been to the Final Four at least one time.
Locally in Tucson the question begins to pop-up how far will Pennell have to go in order to get a serious look at the job. I do not see that happening and there are so many rumors going on as to AZ coaching search its hard to say.
Wait you mean you think Pennell would not get the interim tag removed from him after taking you guys to the Sweet 16? Seems like he's earned it.
