You couldn't keep me away from work today. There should be at least a month long lockout of those that are scheduled to work today and do not show up. Let's flip the unemployment situation. Get some people back to work that want to work and put some people out pounding the pavement that want to support people breaking the law.
Since the Calif Leg passed an item supporting students and workers taking the day off, did this include teachers?
A photo from CNN's coverage of Jo Co students not in class and demonstating in support of the boyccott:
As CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports, the protesters -- of Polish, Irish, Latino, Chinese and many other nationalities -- gathered at Union Park, at Ashland Avenue and Lake Street, and marched to the Loop. From the air, it appeared to be an endless sea of demonstrators, flooding the streets to protest the recently-passed house bill, which would make it a crime to hire or even help undocumented immigrants.
My office is at Flower and Olympic. One of the staging points for today's rally is Olympic and Broadway, so there was a steady stream of marchers going by all morning. Down on the corner, on this day when American goods are supposed to be boycotted, street vendors were doing brisk business selling American flags.
8) Just got back from work and Candy informed me that we set a new record today. 5 crank phone calls in spainish. This has been on-going for the past two weeks ever since the paper published a couple of my letters defining (my definition) legal vs illegal immigration, but only one or two a day. The funny thing is these "yahoo's" must have never heard of caller id, then again it might be all that lead laced candy they love so much south of da border. I usually answer in German but if I'm in a devilish mood It is Mr. Patal from Bombay who answers.
Boy no traffic on the freeway going to work no near misses with those who are driving minus the drivers lic and insurance..... I'll let Joco answer fro himself but I think the threat of an F for the day possibke kept the kids in school they only have 3 weeks left It was no holiday for joco. My daughter in law works for Michaels and she said business was slow also that the corner donut shop where all the day workers hang out didnt do so well today. My sons complaint he had to wash his own car. My sister who is an attorney sd she and her husband(he designs computer programs) where spending the day shopping and lunching. So much for the walks. Some gentleman called ito our collection dept today asked if we were honoring the day when told no sd well then I am not paying my bill any more needless to say .. When it comes to his mortgage I am sure he will reconsider ... or maybe not ....... D
I saw an awful lot of Hispanics working yesterday in south Florida. In fact, I almost bagged one with a wayward 5I on the 11th hole
Even though exams are over I did go in to help one special student who I gave an extended time to take her exam. And it all worked out well. Gator Bill
