    I'm actually suprised. I wonder how many of those are kids he recruited vs players he inherited from Zook.

    These things run in cycles. I hope that LK has put a stop to it, temporary or not, at Tennessee.I liked Phil but if you look up the term "Player"s coach", you would find a picture of him. You allow yourself to become a "buddy" to the players rather than a symbol of discipline, and they start testing you to see what they can get away with. That was one of Fulmer's problems.

    I think you need to look at how these players with more serious offenses are described.....as in ex...players.

    Carl Johnson's offense is pretty minor not that anyone has noticed.

    George, just FYI. The three players listed at the end of the article along with Carl Johnson are no longer Florida Gators.

    I also see that the article didn't bother to mention the circumstances of Johnson's arrest. He was on a bus going to the UF campus and got off at the Hub which is a major gathering place and stop on the Gator campus. He was with several friends when he got off and apparently the young lady in question got off there also.

    So he got on the bus, got off where a lot of students got off the bus and was arrested because she apparently got off there also.

    Word on the street is that the whole thing will be dropped, maybe so and maybe not but I will wager one thing that if it is dropped it won't be written up on bleacher report.

    Also interesting that the writer says there were 22 arrests, but doesn't list them, the seriousness of them and the disposition. What we do know is that the three listed besides Johnson are no longer Gators.

    <r>Doesn't surprise me at all. Meyer is a ruthless SOB who will do anything to win at all cost. He doesn't care if these kids get a college education....it's all about the wins. So his players can't stay out of jail..not a problem as long as he is winning those NCs. <E>8)</E></r>

    Dang getting spurned by Meyer and him going to Florida left a permanent scar on you didn't it? :wink: :wink:

    1st. When did Carl become an ex-Gator?

    2nd. I read somewhere that his girlfriend has alleged that she was date rape him. That's hardly a minor offense, but I (probably more than anyone here) am very leery about that charge due to a bad rap a friend of mine got years ago.

    Where is the entire list of players who have been arrested?

    Corey, here's what I said.
    Notice I said the three besides Johnson.

    You are right those are hardly minor charges. However that is her claim and there are no charges, just a restraining order. There was a court hearing last week that was continued until April and Johnson is out on his own recognizance.

    I will be most happy to report on the results when they are available.

    The people that are going to knock Meyer are going to knock Meyer and I can't do anything about it so for the most part I'm staying away from this topic.

    It brings people like Tim out of the woodwork with glee when they think they might have something on Meyer.

    It's called envy I think.

    I almost think Tim's remarks were in jest because of their out of the realm of reality nature.

    I'm just sayin'.....
    Interesting take, Dave. I guess violating a restraining order is minor. But what generated the restraining order to begin with?

    I remember when Will Yeatman of ND got his second drinking related bust and some, not me, throught it was more a function of over zealous police than an idiot 2x loser who knew the rules, was on his second chance and still could not see fit to play by the rules.

    Now it seems we can alibi away assaults, fraud and forgery, burglary you name it.

    It just seems that everyone has a price where they will compromise in the name of fame, fortune and victory and that price fluctuates depending on the school.

    I agree with Corey and Bill on the "allegations"....

    Just where are the "charges" if that's the case.

    Hey if the guy is proved somehow that he forced himself on this girl make no mistake....he will not play another down for the Gators.

    But charges haven't even been brought yet and may never be brought.

    The circumstances as Bill described of the restraining order violation are nonsensical.....pretty ridiculous a judge couldn't see through to what occurred.

    I recently read where a college aged girl had sought date rape type charges against someone and then dropped them because she was drunk at the time and couldn't remember if she consented or not but thought that maybe she did.

    This is a very, very fine line to walk because college kids get drunk......a lot......and have sex.....a lot.
    Somebody had better be damned certain before they ruin a kid's life by bringing rape charges.

    Were they players when they were arrested, or did their arrests occur after their playing time was over and they were no longer matriculated at Florida?

    <r>Oh I don't mind so much that meyer went to florida. In light of everything that he has done since being with the "gators" though, ND would have fired his ass with all the off field problems he's had in the "swamp". <br/>
    <br/>
    They're are a few schools that try to play by the book as much as possible. I'll feel justified when um and florida get put on probation and have some schollies yanked for some of his recruiting violations and the lack of control down there. <br/>
    <br/>
    don't worry though, florida is guaranteed another NC this season cause Timmy is back for his final season(don't forget, he'll win the Heisman again too.) <E>8)</E> <br/>
    <br/>
    Maybe he'll get a really big head after this season and try to make it in the NFL....right. That offense and Tebow will never make it at that level.</r>

    I'm not exactly sure what is the correlation between player misbehavior and the coaching staffs. No doubt there have been situations where there was so much trouble that you have to start looking at the coaching staffs.

    The usual argument is that the coaches can't watch the kids 24/7 and aren't responsible when kids get into trouble on their own time. I buy that for the most part. But as I said, when you start having a lot more than the "normal" amount of trouble from college kids you have to wonder what is going at any particular program. The classic is the Univ of Miami under some of their coaches (Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson in particular) had way more than the normal problems and it was clearly a situation where the coaches were in fact responsible for creating an atmosphere where the players felt empowered to act as they pleased with a certain degree of impunity.

    The Irish have had kids get into trouble but it's not esp common, and the message sent by the university is pretty harsh so that I doubt any ND player thinks he's just going to have to run some laps or be protected by the coach. It's likely to cost him a year of playing his sport. I think some places the punishments are so light that the kids don't even worry about them and that in itself creates an atmosphere that results in a higher number of problems.

    To Tim and Rick:

    I am extremely comfortable with the way Meyer handles players who have not handled themselves within the law. He has a very short patience window and for serious infractions players are summarily dismissed. Nothing is lax or rule bending or Bowdenesque when it comes to Meyer and player discipline.

    Tim.....I haven't paid attention to you all that much so I don't really know your usual posting style but I swear Gonzo has taken over your Skybox account.

    My question was asked in hopes of gaining clarity, but that doesn't seem to be forthcoming.

    Were Cam Newton (laptop chucker), Jamar Hornsby (who said credit is dead?) and Jacques Rickerson (no one can hear you scream in pillow space) Florida student-athletes at the time their transgressions occurred? I ask because the article's focus seems to be on the character of players recruited rather than how they're dealt with after they've committed their crimes.

    Were these guys leftovers from Zook?

    All Meyer players I believe......but that doesn't mean too much because it's not an NFL type character evaluation these college coaches use for evaluating character. That's a pretty weak assumption to make to say that Meyer should have known better.... not when the list of major universities lined up to sign these guys was long and illustrious.

    Otherwise....I would sure like to see this list of "22" that the author refers to.

    I doubt there are 22 legit players on the list and if there are I would be pretty sure Meyer didn't recruit them all or the infractions of many on the list are petty or a combination of both.

    I just re-read the article again and I don't see where the author wrote that Meyer should have known better. Who "said" that (other than perhaps a strawman)?

    Rick, I've had problems getting online because of snow here in North Carolina.

    All three players mentioned except for Johnson are gone from Florida. All three were on the team when their issues happened. Newton's case was resolved pretty quickly and he's doing some community service and has transferred. I believe his transfer had a lot more to do with the depth chart at QB than his having done anything so serious as to be dismissed.

    The other two were dropped like hot potatoes and will not be coming back. Hornsby is transferring to Ole Miss.

    Sorry for the delay.
