....called for by this Princeton professor and I agree. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/25/zelizer.wall.street/index.html Before we jump to the conclusion that all congressional hearings are good however he does offer this about the 1990s about which I agree as you know: " Partisan warfare in the 1990s, including the impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton, made many Americans cynical about congressional investigation, as it seemed to be just another tool in the bitter culture of Capitol Hill. But Congress can help us learn. We need another Pecora Commission, another Fulbright Committee, another Sam Ervin to use the power of Congress to shed light on the causes of our current economic meltdown. "
Mostly Congressional investigations serve to let the Congress appear to be on top of things. I can't remember the last time a Congressional Investigation actually accomplished something. Maybe somebody could point it out to me. But they are usually politically motivated on both sides of the isle. Not saying they shouldn't be done, because it's sort of the nature of the human when things go wrong we want to investigate why they went wrong. Unfortunately usually nothing changes.
Great cartoon TOK....says it all. I watched Barney Frank last night railing at Northern Trust for sponsoring the Riviera, hosting parties for clients, etc, etc.....what a hypocritical f#$K! It will be a joke of epic proportions....they held similar proceedings in Salem. This is the problem.....look at the headline - Commentary: Investigate Wall Street I have no problem, indeed wholeheartedly support, thoroughly researching the issue, its causes and policy actions that can keep us from repeating our mistakes......HOWEVER, the notion that congress - who bears as much blame as any, is going to call out its own ineptness and its contributory negligence and/or wholehearted support of other equally culpable parties - Raines, Fannie and Freddie is ridiculous under the leadership of that fat buffoon Frank. Wall Street didn't do it......it happened, Wall Street was involved but no more so than Main St, Capitol Hill and basic human greed at the mom and pop level........it just demonizes Wall Street. It's demagoguery at its best.....never forget that at the very CORE of this issue are people that borrowed more of somebody else's money than they are able or willing to repay.......going forward, why should they not? Uncle Sam is going to help 'em out......
Great point. That's what really gets lost in all these handouts. It's sort of like the overprotective parent that's always bailing their kid out of trouble even though it is 100% the kid's fault they're in the situation they're in. Eventually, either the kid digs so deep that mom and dad can't bail 'em out or mom and dad get fed up and let the kid learn from their mistake. Let's sincerely hope that our government doesn't stretch itself so thin in trying to help the economy this time that when the next generation has their own crisis (possibly by no fault of their own) the government can't bail them out. Eventually someone's got to face the music. In a perfect world, those that are responsible would face the music now rather than my son facing it years down the road.
Watergate investigation.....GOOD Iran-Contra.....GOOD Whitewater investigation.....Partisan. Give me a freakin' break.
As i looked upon our assembled houses of Congress last night I couldn't help but wonder how these fools all found one another. Thank god they are in politics because I'm not sure they could earn livings in the real world. Those folks should not sit in judgement of anyone. Clinton committted perjury. That's what opened up the floodgates on him. Don't forget that. How about that Nancy Pelosi? For the last few years she sat up there like a cadaver behind Bush, never risking a glance at Cheney. Last night she was like Gidget, high fiving Biden, leaping from her throne like a HS cheerleader everytime Obama uttered one of his buzzwords, beaming like a bride. I was laughing my ass off.
I kept waiting for Biden to lean over and tell her to cool it, that he was tired of jumping up every other minute.
Terry He might have been thinking of how much money he had with Stanford's Bank. Apparently his brother and his son had a hedgefund that had mucho buckos in Stanford.
Obama, I get. I don't agree with his politics, but I understand the attraction to him. Rahm, hell even Biden, I get. Pelosi... just about my whole dang life between Pelosi, Feinstein and Boxer, I've felt like I was popping crazy pills by the dozen. Who the hell votes for these people? I seriously shutter at the thought she, Pelosi, is in the incredible position of power that she holds today... But the longer you watch them, the more you may understand why SoCals aren't too fond of the Nocals
