Now that I have your attention, these are not my sentiments but those of Neil Young, noted singer and burnout who has come out of recent anonymity with this little ditty that uses virtually every knee-jerk liberal stereotype in one meaningless, half-assed song. Now sing along..... Here, for the first time, the lyrics to Neil Young’s “Let’s Impeach the President”: Let’s impeach the president for lying And leading our country into war Abusing all the power that we gave him And shipping all our money out the door He’s the man who hired all the criminals The White House shadows who hide behind closed doors And bend the facts to fit with their new stories Of why we have to send our men to war Let’s impeach the president for spying On citizens inside their own homes Breaking every law in the country By tapping our computers and telephones What if Al Qaeda blew up the levees Would New Orleans have been safer that way Sheltered by our government’s protection Or was someone just not home that day? Let’s impeach the president For hijacking our religion and using it to get elected Dividing our country into colors And still leaving black people neglected Thank god he’s racking down on steroids Since he sold his old baseball team There’s lot of people looking at big trouble But of course the president is clean Thank God
8) Neil Young is a Canadian. Read those lyrics again and remember that he's as American as those Mexicans who're demanding their "rights" to live, work, vote and draw government benefits here... To all those who keep saying that we can't deport all these whiners because, "There's too many of them." I say... SI SE PUEDE! (Yes we can!)
 BTW- Does anybody even know who the president of Canada is? Do they have a president? Or is it a prime minister? Does anyone care? One of you hockey guys must know something about Canada...right? Do they drive on the same side of the street as us? Or is it like Mexico where they just go around in circles? Inquiring minds want to know...
8) I think they are our largest trade partner, at least they were the last time I looked (they may have been replaced by the Chi-Coms") Surely you remember P.M. Brian Mulrooney(sp?), that dude had a hell of a voice! When he sang "When Irish Eyes are Crying" he had more panties thrown at him then Tom Jones!
Uh, huh. Last summer the "anonymous burnout" played at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville (country fans will understand), and when Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) found out, he made a film about it. Young's last album, "Prairie Wind", received critical acclaim, plus a 2005 Top 100 Album ranking from Amazon. Neil's currently helping to pull Lionel Trains out of bankruptcy. He's been involved in model railroading since he was five, and shares the hobby with his son Ben. Because Ben has cerebral palsey, Neil has developed - and received patents for - wireless paddle controls that allow users to control multiple train and track functions with an economy of effort. It may be better to burn out than to fade away, but Neil's done neither. Here's another Neil Young tune, from 2001... I know I said I love you I know you know it's true I've got to put the phone down And do what we gotta do One's standing in the aisleway Two more at the door We've got to get inside there Before they kill some more Time is running out Let's roll Time is running out Let's roll No time for indecision We've got to make a move I hope that we're forgiven For what we gotta do How this all got started I will never understand I hope someone can fly this thing And get us back to land Time is running out... No one has the answer But one thing is true You've gotta turn on evil When it's coming after you You gotta face it down And when it tries to hide You gotta go in after it And never be denied Time is running out... Let's roll for freedom Let's roll for love Goin' after Satan On the wings of a dove Let's roll for justice Let's roll for truth Let's not let our children grow up Fearful in their youth
So what is St. Neil saying in his two songs? That it was a good idea to strike back but now that there are "costs" involved we should impeach Bush? Horsesh*t!
I'll leave that to you to interperet. They are songs, after all. No one except you has referred to Young as a saint. But you did refer to him as a "noted singer and burnout who has come out of recent anonymity...". That was at best an uninformed statement, and being a Neil Young fan, I'm only too happy to point out the truth. I don't agree with, or care for, "Let's Impeach The President". I do support free speech, though. Attack the song all you want, just leave the tactic of defaming an individual with whom you don't agree to Al Sharpton.
As does Al, I'm sure, when confronted with facts. The trick is to act responsibly in the first place.
You mean like publicly performing with cocaine dangling from one's nose? Strange that the "burnout" term you find so offensive refers to Young's anthem, a concept that moved Curt Cobain so much as to include it in his suicide note, "It's better to burn out than fade away". And yes, Neil Young has received recognition in the last 10 years but compared to his volume of work done in the 70's to the vast multitude of non-die hard fans, he has been in recent anonymity. Did you know Neil Sedaka is still writing, recording, and performing? I still remember all the words to Calendar Girl, and Happy Birthday Sweet 16 - 40 years later. Oh and as a USA citizen, he could write a song and sing about "OUR" country. This isn't Young's country - by his choice. He could at least exercise some responsibility (and accuracy) in his choice of pronouns. Freedom of speech doesn't include a pass on misrepresentation.
And where did I say I find the term "burnout" offensive with respect to Young? Must be your words. I said "uninformed". I also said, "It may be better to burn out than to fade away, but Neil's done neither." And he hasn't.
:? Would you have preferred the term washed-out? How about has-been? That old bum and his opinions are as relevant as the tear stains on his bell-bottom trousers. He's spent his entire career making fun of Americans and their way of life. Now its time for us to give him some advice: hit the road and don't come back...
was your opening line. You than continued with ... N.B. emphasis added. No, you didn't use the word 'offensive' and I didn't say you did, did I? You did take umbrage with George's depiction of a mega star of our youth, didn't you? Or were "defaming", "Al Sharpton" and "just not responsibly..." supposed to be compliments? Q.E.D.
No. Both would have also been incorrect. Washed out has-beens don't continue to sell tickets and albums at the clip Neil does. You're certainly welcome to your opinion, but I disagree
Not umbrage either. I found George's depiction to be "at best an uninformed statement", as I said. Neither compliments nor insults, Jack.
Young is just another foreigner who comes here and makes his fortune off the American consumer while blasting away at the very people who made him relevant. That's cool. Just don't expect all of us to assign any importance to this guy. We see him for what he is. If he doesn't like things here he can head back from whence he came. Just exercising my free speech rights, of course.
