That sounds good Tom. Meyer has made school a much higher priority for Gator players and I think it's paying dividends.
Bill, Tom..what do you think it would take at Tenn and/or Fla to achieve the level of graduation/academic success that you see routinely at Notre Dame, or Boston College or Northwestern, Stanford, etc? I'm not exactly sure what the mechanics of the situation at ND are, I know the Irish are a little more selective with regards to HS grades, but it's not like our kids are all honors graduates of their HS. Once at ND I don't know what we do differently, other than expect them to go to class. I definitely don't think any of the coaches show up at their classes. I know every school, even those with low academic success, have academic serivices for the athletes. You know tutoring, help with the schedule, study halls with all the latest computers and stuff. Lots of schools have manditory study hall for those athletes below a certain GPA. More importantly if your schools starting showing up in the top 10 in grad rates but started slipping on the field would you be happy? I've asked some guys this and they all said that they would not trade top football on the field for top rated academic success for the players. Naturally they'd like some happy medium where they are above the average for the Div1 but not so much that it detracts from the goals on the field.
This should be fun to watch.. Son, if you don't go to class, I'm gunna have Coach O follow you around... and no one wants that.
I really don't know because I am not certain where the opportunity for improvement resides. I know that efforts like Kiffin's is a step in the right direction. I would not be happy if our on the field success was not competitive with other institutions having the same success in the classroom. It has been proven that academic success does not erode athletic success.
