Dennis Dodd Thinks it might be Tim Tebow.

And I thought that Florida success was attributable to Meyer. Guess anyone could be that successful coaching the greatest football player ever.

Tebow has only lost 4 games since last year right? :p

Gippper, maybe it's Meyer that made him what he is! :) More likely just a good combination of player and coach.

AJ, actually I think we have lost 5 games during the two year period. After tonight we are very hopeful that it is still 5.

Tebow is a great college football player no doubt. Hard to come up with the "ever" part as we tend to devalue others greatness as time fades their accomplishments from our mind.

True. Think of those that played both ways, and even some special teams.

No question that he is a great college football player like all of the 70+ Heisman Trophy winners and many others who did not win the Heisman but were great.

But the greatest ever? Not a chance. It would be interesting to solicit everyone's opinion about the greatest players in the history of the game. I wouldn't be surprised if the opinions mirror school loyalties. I know mine would.

Put me down for Jim Thorp. Not only was he an incredibly multi-talented athlete, he looked like Burt Lancaster. :D

I guess it is possible, who knows?

The point I have tried to make continually, and it gets Gators all riled up, is that if Tebow really is as awesome and legendary as the media makes him out to be....

Then his team and/or coach aren't very good.

Lesser mortals have gone unbeaten, even in the SEC.

The Jim Thorpe story was a pretty good story, I just saw it for the first time a year or so ago on AMC. I don't know how historically accurate it was but if it was accurate then it was eye opening to me how we treated Native Americans after we conquered the west.

You would have to put me down for Johnny U. Even though presently my prejudice would go with Peyton, it would be hard for him to dethrone a hero from my youth.

For the love of God, Bill, it's one thing to poke at a lion when he's sleeping and there's nothing fun going on. But if the lion has been on a rampage for a week, do we really need keep poking him and throwing him more meat??!!!

I don't think I could even come up with a top 5 list. Like all of you I've seen some really great players in my lifetime. But I'd be hard pressed to seperate one or a few from the others.

    I wouldn't call it a rampage.

I just refuse to accept the status quo. Just because someone told you something is true, doesn't make it so.

Like I said.. if it were your team, you'd be going ballistic.

Since me standing up for one team 'threatens' other folks teams, they have welcomed my articles and stats with ad hominem and ridicule. It's all good though, I'm on a rampage.......

    FTR-

I still think Tebow is a fantastic player.. Best ever??? Maybe..

If that is the case, then it makes me openly question how good the rest of his team and coach are.. This is a team that has lost 5 games in the past 2 years. Lord knows I've read or seen references countless articles about the sheer awesomeness of Urban Meyer, and ditto that for the incredible talent level of the Florida Gators.

I think that last year was probably the single greatest performance I can ever remember seeing from a college player...in terms of showings over the course of the year..

The single greatest game I've ever seen was Vince Young in the title game vs SC..
