You knew this was coming..... Earlier today, a wise man said: There is only one team in the country who fits that bill this year and that is Utah. Florida literally played their way into the mythical NC game by beating Alabama 31-20 in a fantastic back and forth football game that went down to the wire. Utah handled that same Alabama team 31-17 in a game that was not as close as the score would indicate. In fact, Utah hurt themselves with penalties and turnovers. They overcame all that and Bama never seriously got back in it. From the moment it appeared Bama was going to do it, Utah ripped their heart out and pulled away making it a 2 score game again! If you have a reason for them not to be #1 based on what they have accomplished, I'd like to hear it. This is now the 3rd time in 4 games that the "BCS Buster" has beaten the golden child in the BCS game, and this was perhaps the most golden of all of them. Urban Meyer's Utah team beat a sad sack Pitt squad that really had no business in the BCS. Bama was playing for the NC up until the conference title game. That is something, sadly, Utah never got the chance to do... and it is all because of the system.
If you guys really miss JOCO that much, I can post the exchange he and I have been having tonight but I am pretty sure you guys don't want any part of this. I will say that the last email he sent me contained this video link: http://videos.espn.com/m/video/21611316/sugar_bowl_utah_vs_alabama.htm
Interesting video, Herbstreit more than nailed that game. You can certainly make a case for Utah being the best this year. I think their final rating will be either 2nd or 3rd depending whether they pass USC or not. The system isn't perfect but I refuse to let it ruin things for me. While I understand your point about Utah being best I'll stick with the winner of the Thursday night game being champion with the loser being probably 4th.
Did anyone happen to catch the ESPN fan poll last night? Every state in the Union thought Utah was #1 except for two...Florida and Oklahoma. I think that is to be expected. Why do what is right when one can act in their own self-interest? It's human nature.
There's something to that. The combination of the Alabama loss and the Texas Tech loss makes you want to go hmmmm?
KP, For me, and I would bet many Americans, Florida played their way into the title game by beating Alabama. Before that moment, they weren't in. Utah not only did the same thing as Florida, but did so in a far more convincing fashion (not picking any scabs here, just stating fact).. People laugh at the MWC but their next to last place team, Wyoming, beat Tennessee in Knoxville. TCU dethroned unbeaten Boise State, and while I know that means little to anyone east of the Rockies, it should be noted that TCU has been beaten twice this year... to Utah and Oklahoma. The MWC has 3 10+win teams. And let us not all forget that folks were pointing all year to the fact Penn State clobbered Oregon State, as if to suggest Penn State were better than USC... but the fact remains is that Oregon State was also thumped by Utah. Heck...I could go on, but why.. they did all the talking on the field...the system is now, officially, broken.
Pull over, mister. Hyperbole police. Utah scored eleven points in the last two minutes of the Oregon State game to pull out the win. Utah did, however, thump Bammer. No question about that. I'm still shocked by how good the Utes looked against the Tide.
We started this year with the SEC having 4 NC contenders and you're calling hyperbole police for that!?!? Jesus H Fine... they BEAT Oregon State.. they were ahead by 5 at halftime, yet overcame the 2nd half rally of Oregon State to reclaim the game by 3.. So since we're being factual, can we have the USC-Utah title game now?
WAIT....are you telling me UTAH ( where the hell is that) beat the RED TIDE????? OMG Im glad its basketabll time :!:
The Hyperbole Police aren't equipped to deal with the deluded. 8) The USC/Georgia winner last year could have played LSU. The USC/Utah winner this year could play the OU/UF winner, although Texas still gets screwed.
Vic!!!! Great to hear from you. Are you guys getting excited about Sarkisian up there yet? Rick, LOL...
The only Red Tide that I have ever heard of is the Red Tide of communism! Now Utah did play the Crimson Tide of Alabama last night!
I'm convinced Corey. Utah looked strong debacling Bama. Great job by the Utah coaching staff to get the Utes up for their game in which virtually no one gave them a shot. I think Bama suffered a bit from the letdown of losing a shot to play for the NC. Utah proved they deserve a shot to play for the NC. I think I'm suddenly very much pro-playoff. Let's hope more people see the light as a result of this game.
