My hat is off to Randy Shannon. He is placing the program in front of everything else. Suspending key players before the big game shows that he is ready and willing to do what it takes to gain control of that program.

His team is buying into it as well it appears. Miami is looking good considering their starting QB is sitting this game out.

I put 27 points on Cal but wouldn't mind losing them to see Shannon pull this game out.

Valiant effort by Miami. The clock management lacked a lot to be desired on the last drive. These young kids will be a force in years to come.

Nate Longshore has become a nightmare for Cal. He's gone backwards over time and he kept Miami in this game.

Miami has a lot of great young talent though.

Here's what I don't get. Tedford is a supposed QB guru, right? But has he developed any outstanding QB's? He inherited Kyle Bolinger when he arrived and Bolinger was a top rated hs QB, and he was floundering under the previous coaching staff, Tedford resurrected his career. But since then he has not recruited a top ranked QB I don't believe, and none of the other CAL QB's have developed into top QB's, NFL prospects have they? It seems to me CAL's strengths over the Tedford years have been as a running team.

    Terry,

Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers is on line one for you :) Something about you being wrong... lol

It was Kyle Boller that he inherited.

If you look at his career, I'd argue that he has produced better RBs and running teams than passing teams.. but we all know that the pac10 doesn't run the ball or play defense (cough, cough).. :D

Going back to his days as an assistant at Fresno he coached Trent Dilfer and Billy Volek . At Oregon, he had AJ Feeley, Akili Smith and Joey Harrington. Finally, at Cal, he's had Kyle Boller and Aaron Rodgers... I think Longshore went backwards after an injury in the past, but I think that Riley may be a very good one.

It was a good game and either team could have won.

As to Shannon, I started a topic or two about his approach which for the emost part I support.

However I am not as high on him as I was a year ago. He suspended some players for a bowl game which is admirable. However in the QB's, Marve, case he has let it be known he's going to transfer and both QB's have played about the same amount.

Shannon is a good recruiter, it remains to be seen how good of a game day coach he is and he has a strange attitude about running up the score. He was really angry at Meyer for kicking a field goal late in the game with a field goal kicker that had never kicked a field goal, when the week before his team went for it 4th and 3 at about mid field in the fourth quarter when leading by over 30 points.

I'm glad he is cleaning up some of the Miami image, but I have more questions about him than I did a year ago.

    Sorry if this sounds negative.

    My bad!!

But still you seem to agree that his teams are better running teams than they are passing teams. The 2004 team that got beat out by Texas for the BCS slot seems to have been his best team. I would have thought that with the problems at Wash, UCLA, and Stanford...that'd he'd have a stable of the best Calif. QB's who didn't want to sit on the bench at USC. But it doesn't seem to have worked out that way.

BTW: Akli Smith....now there's an example of how a guy who looks so good in a college offense isn't an NFL QB in the least bit.

    Husker,

Don't do it. You will be losing part of that Huskernation good guy thing. Hatred like that is born from some deep seeded persecution and pain... You guys haven't been down that long, and hopefully won't be down again.

    Terry,

I do agree with you, very much so in fact. I wouldn't say he is overrated as a QB coach. On the contrary, guys seem to play better for him and he seems to put them in place to be drafted when the reality is that they aren't that good.

If he ever landed a Matt Barkley type, I think we'd be really concerned about Cal. He has them running and playing defense. They always have some quality WRs. The one thing they lack is that big time QB. Rodgers wasn't bad, but he was not marquis guy either.
