When I saw the subject line, I assumed you meant the one with him holding his ankles as the Vols fans take out their frustrations... But I am glad (and relieved) to hear that he's landed well in a position that will allow him to earn eternal icon status on campus.
I read in Sporting News Today that Fulmer has declined the position, but he will work on a voluntary basis to help foster relationships with the school's current and prospective large donors. Something tells me that with his multi-million dollar settlement he won't miss the $37,500.
Supposedly he turned down the paid position because UT is eliminating teaching staff positions in a cost cutting move, and Fulmer getting his buyout and a salary just didn't look good.
KP nailed it. There was a big uproar over this position. Even though the money was to be donated from non-academic funds, and had absolutely zero affect on any position being considered for elimination, Fulmer made this decision. Phil Fulmer IS Tennessee. I like and fully respect Philip Fulmer, the man. Philip Fulmer the coach, however, had to move on. This controversial move will do nothing but solidify his position in Tennessee history.
That was the last on the field quote from the man that has been at the head of our program for so long. Goodbye Phil Fulmer. I wish you the greatest success in your next endeavor.
