According to ESPN radio there will be no press conference at ND today. Both CW and the AD are on the road. Maybe it will be a press release. Meanwhile CW is recruiting, the team is scheduled to practice later in the week. The banquet is this weekend and they await a bowl bid.
Rumors posted on gator Country: Mike Leach and Steve Sarlisian talking to Washington and Auburn has offered Leach. After Leach, Auburn iunterested in two CIW's, Will Muschamp and Jimbo Fisher. - UPDATE - Leach is not going to Washington. Ed Ogre and Art Kehoe headed to UT. Chavis to LSU or Clemson Illinois' Mike Locksley to Syracuse (and I thought it was Turner Gill?) Former gator QB Shane Matthews to USCe to work with QBs for SOS. UF assts being contacted or listed: Dan Mullen (San Diego St and New Mex St) Dan McCarney (K State staff) - UF DC is Strong leaves Steve Adassio (Syracuse) Charlie Strong Billy Gonzalez - UF OC of Mullen leaves
Chris Pederson of Boise State is rumoured to be taking the Miss State job. To me this is a very dumb move. He will have to be a miracle man to get MSU past LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn and Alabama.
The Peterson to Miss State is everywhere here in Alabama. If there is one coach that has people worried about his arrival, it is him. We'll see how this plays out.
There are also reports that Houston Nutt has met with Auburn. A little traveling music please.... Although reports are that the meeting didn't go well.
Skip Holtz now rumoured to be in the mix at Syracuse and Auburn, Turner Gill also in the mix at those same two schools. It would seem to me that Syracuse is a school where the right guy can make a move. The Big East is not a tough conference, Syracuse has a great tradition, they are a state school so should have an edge over BC in recruiting the North East.
Word is: Dan Mullen (Florida's OC) to take Miss State job. Sources: Mississippi State hires Florida coordinator as coach
I guess the interesting thing will be his involvement in the Gators Bowl prep. I think for his own future he of course needs to get on the ball get a staff together and start recruiting and see what kind of class he can salvage for Feb 2009. But that has to hurt the Gator a little bit. I think that when Mark Richt took the UGA job he left almost immediately but did return and was in the booth for the FSU bowl game. I know that when Mike Stoops took the AZ job he did the same thing. Of course since Urban designed the offense it's not like there won't be anybody at UF who knows what to do, and Urban may have somebody on the staff already who he will name his new OC.
Yepper. Rumor is WR coach Billy Gonzalez is likely to be promoted to OC and Meyer will hire a new QB coach. It's also rumored George O'Leary will get the boot this week and UCF is interested in Charlie Strong as his replacement. If that happens, Dan McCarney and/or Vance bedford may get the DC (co-DC) job and UF looks for a LBer coach.
UCF would be a good move for Strong. CUSA success isn't that hard to achieve, and their isn't a lot of stability in the head coaches there so the power shifts a lot from year to year. At UCF he'll have a new stadium to show recruits and a strong recruiting base in Fla.
It looks like Mullen will be in the booth for the Oklahoma game. Some Gator fans are up in the air over him leaving now and going to an SEC team. Some people have unrealistic ideas as to what life is about. Mullen should take the Head Coaching job, that's the natural progression for Assistant Coaches who are good enough. I wish him well.
I don't understand why Urban even says stuff like this. If I were a Gator fan I'd be conflicted, on the one hand Urban has been great for UF and you'd like to think he thinks only of Gator Football and a long career there, but you would also be upset that he says he'd still maybe like to coach at ND someday when his kids are grown. Urban Meyer w/Jim This link is to a So.Fla radio station site there is a list of interviews, Urbans is on that list, it's about 7 on that list. He talks about mostly the usual stuff you'd expect, but at about the 6:30 mark of the interview he makes the comments about ND.
To be fair the interviewer asked him the question about ND, but if I were a Gator I would rather he answered with some sort of that was then and now I'm so happy here in Fla and I hope to finish my career here type of answer.
LOL ...... this has Gator boards in an uproar, this morning. As best I can tell, either Meyer is playing games with UF and/or ND fans or .... really wants the ND job and is telling the ND admin to "fire Charlie and hire Meyer". Heck, Meyer's losing his OC and DC this week .... and his starting QB, top WR/RB, and best LBer in January. Maybe a good time to get outta Gainesvillle!!!
I agree with you Terry as far as what I would prefer Meyer to say. But he's always been his own man. Gaterz is right about the keyboard jockeys being up in an uproar about this. You know Bobby Bowden always wanted to coach at Alabama. I think at one point he actually had the chance and turned it down. My personal opinion is that Meyer never goes to Notre Dame, but I could be wrong. I also have to think this isn't a comfortable position for Charlie Weis. Well I'm off for the afternoon and probably the day. Later
Oh that's just Urbie being Urbie... He's been a constant thorn in the side of Weis since the day Chuck took the job. If nothing else, Urbie parlays this into another extension/raise. Given how this season has gone, I don't think he needs to play these games to get that.
I'm guessing that Urban Meyer has nothing at all to do with these wild rumors and that it is a fabrication of the collectively hysterical mindset of those Florida fans on those boards, similar to the mindeset of the same type of ND fans. They are everywhere. If you hire the right kind of people, you expect to lose them somewhere along the line. He was smart enough to hire the kind of people who have helped bring great success to the program. He can do it again.......and again......and..........
Well if he still has so much respect for ND, I'd hope he'd tell top Southern players that if you're not comming to UF then you should consider going to ND. Of course that way he wouldn't have to face them on Sat either and he'd help stock the Irish for the day he comes in and takes over!! So sue me, I'm a dreamer!!
