Gonzo is also known as a Gator slayer http://www.nj.com/setonhall/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1144472823250530.xml&coll=1 http://www.nj.com/setonhall/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/114456460918820.xml&coll=1
I read one article a week ago that said he was not going to be the choice at the Hall because he wanted to bring in all his own assistants and one of them was a little unsavory and they told him he couldn't come with him as an assistant at the Hall. So they moved on to talk to another candidate. I wonder who blinked, does he get who ever he wants as an assistant or did he decide to cave and let them dictate who could and couldn't be his assistants. Terry
Doc, He's going to have 2 ex Hall players on his staff, Jerry Walker and Johnny Morton. I don't know if he's bringing anyone else along but it appears Walker & Morton were pre requisites. Louie Orr wasn't a bad coach, maybe not great, but not bad. The Hall did beat a subpar Zona team in the NCAA tournament a few years ago. He wasn't a great recruiter and left nothing on the table for Gonzalez. Many of the good Hall players he inherited from Ammaker. Gonzo is an up and coming coach and a high energy guy. He did a great job at Manhattan. Seton Hall is a sleeper. When they had great years under PJ Carlisimo, they sold out at the Continental Arena. It can easily be a big time program. In 1989 they had Michigan beat for the NCAA championship. They called a touch foul with a few ticks to go on Rumeal Robinson at the top of the key.
