Well it's down to the end. I'm not sure when the Heisman votes have to be in so I don't know if this weekends championship games will have any impact. Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, Graham Harrell are bound to be the leaders. Crabtree is probably the 5th guy. I looked over on www.theheismanvote.com and the public voting goes like this Colt McCoy 17% Sam Bradford 13% Javon Ringer 11% Graham Harrell 10% Tim Tebow 10% as the leading vote getters. All the top 4 had great games this week. I haven't a clue who will win. I'll bet it's the closest Heisman in a long time.
I don't understand how Ringer is still up there. I'm sure he fits the "most valuable to his team" argument but the QBs this year are head and shoulders above everyone else, IMO. I'm in agreement, I don't know which one it will be. I believe that voters have the choice of sending the ballots in early or waiting until after the championship games. I think it comes down to Bradford and Harrell. I just don't see Tebow getting enough votes to do it twice in a row and I don't think McCoy will get the benefit of the doubt b/c his team didn't get the benefit of the doubt and a chance to play in the Big XII title game.
Two words: midwest sportswriters. Isn't regional bias always a factor in the Heisman race? I agree with Aquila re: Ringer. He's probably there because he's the best the midwest and east have to offer this year.
If I had a vote I'd vote for Graham Harrell. IMHO he's the best QB that TT has had since Mike Leach took over in Lubbock. Without him this team would probably still be a 7 and 5 team. My second choice would be Tebow. Even with all the talent Florida has I can't see them being a national title contender without him. PJ in Jersey
Even a win against ALA wouldn't get Tebow a 2nd Heisman. It's gonna be against Colt against whatshisnuts from OU. I can never think of his name.
I don't know who is gonna win this thing. There are several deserving candidates all of whom happen to be QB's imho. I think it's clear by now that it's going to come down to one of the 3 guys from the Big 12 - Harrell, McCoy and Bradford. When I look at it, I'm just astounded at the numbers that Bradford puts up.....a QB rating of almost 200(!) 46 TD passes against 6 picks, are you kidding me? The kid is only a soph.....he is scary good. I don't know that we've ever seen a QB this young, this good....and if we have, somebody please let me know who it was cause I sure don't remember one. That said, take nothing away from those other kids, they too had great seasons....but I think that Bradford is just that much better.
Well I can think of 1 qb who might have been this good this young. Art Schilster (sp?). I hope he has a different fate though.
To be sure, Arthur had one helluva soph season and led his team to an undefeated regular season and came within 1 minute and 1 point of a national title and finished quite high in the Heisman balloting but......his 1800 yds, 14 td's and just over 50% completion pct pale in comparison to Bradfords. I know it's a different time and a different game and Art was special for sure, but 4000 yds, 46 td -v- 6 picks and 70% is just sick..... However, if I had to choose who I'd rather go to the track with, Art would win hands down.... sad story. Actually, I just saw him on Tv last week....must be out of jail temporarily before his next conviction.....
My unofficial vote goes to Bradford. He just really impresses me. With that said I think Tebow is the best player in the game; there is just nothing he can't do. Hell, he was even blocking in the FSU game and blocking well. He is surrounded by game breaking talent which is why I give a slight edge to Bradford.
Colt McCoy. The same rationale someone here used for Tebow (FL not as good without him) in my opinion applies perhaps more so to McCoy/TX. Regardless of OK's choice for the B12 CG and their drubbing of TT at home, I still believe TX is the better team. Just my opinion.
Bradford has the better numbers and this higher rank and he is amazing. Harrell is good as is McCoy. Of course I am biased to Tebow. However I don't think he wins this year. However I do believe he will be in the top 3 beating out at least one of the Big 12 guys. I think you can make a case for any one of the three QB's, but I think Bradford gets it.
I think the votes will go with the guys with the greater stats and, I think a great case can be made for Bradford and McCoy over Tebow. But I'm very biased Gator and think Tebow is the best of the three. If I had a vote for Heisman ... it would look like this: #1 - Tim Tebow #2 - Percy Harvin #3 - Brandon Spikes
Given that in most years regional bias plays a part, and given that the 4 leading candidates are centered in the south and south west, I would think that Tebow has an excellent chance of repeating. I would think that the writers in the east and midwest who voted for him last year would vote for him again, especially if FL beats AL. Why wouldn't they? As good as the other 3 are, I wouldn't think that they are good enough to move last year's Tebow voters based on the season he has had. I personally favor McCoy, but it really is a toss-up IMO as far as what each candidate has done to advance his team's season.
the knock on Tebow is easy...he hasn't proven himself in a big game yet. Bradford and Mccoy have. We'll see how he does against Bama.
