Of the three bowls, the Gator has first choice, followed by the Alamo and then the Sun. The Gator Bowl, played on New Year’s Day in Jacksonville, Fla., does have the option of taking a Big 12 team and has expressed interest in NU, an appealing prospect for Big Red fans who for so long were accustomed to their team playing on Jan. 1. The popular speculation is that the Gator Bowl would take a 7-5 Notre Dame team over an 8-4 Nebraska team, but speculation is where it ends at this point. “I can tell you we’ve never had a 7-5 team play in our bowl game,” Gator Bowl president Rick Catlett told the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Journal Gazette. “So that would be a little unprecedented for us to do that, although, I would also say at the same time, people will change their attitudes when it’s Notre Dame.” Notre Dame is 6-4, with a presumed victory against Syracuse and a presumed loss against Southern Cal still remaining. A seventh win for Notre Dame is likely but doesn’t make the Irish a Gator Bowl lock, a couple of bowl representatives said, especially if Notre Dame were to get routed by USC. “There’s a big difference between 7-5 (and) losing on the final drive to USC, and losing 45-10,” one bowl rep said.
Big Red to the Gator Bowl!! That's fine with me. I'm not worried about what bowl we play in I'm worried about the next game, then I'll worry about USC! Actually El Paso for the Sun Bowl would be a nice destination. We could all go out and stay with ElPasoTim for the game!!
you could stay at my old Army Basic Training ..Fort Bliss :!: Then hop over the bridge to Juarez LOLOLOL!
We're not a Gator Bowl quality team. But once again ND will be exploited by these bowl committees who profit from our great fan base and ratings payoff. How about pairing us up with someone we can compete with. As I recall the last 2 teams we played in bowls ended up in the championship game the following year. And folks wonder why we have such a miserable bowl record. We're being exploited I tell ya....
I do think it's telling that as miserable as this season has been that the Gator Bowl is thinking they might rather have the 7-5 Irish over an 8-4 Neb team!! If we go that's fine, if we don't go that's fine as well. I'm going to guess that if UNC wins the ACC they will go with the Huskers over a rematch with ND/UNC. Huskers travel extremely well and Jacksonville would be filled with the good people from the land of corn. And given the value of the corn with so much needed for ethanol production they'll hit town loaded with cash!!! Only problem is TV ratings would be better with ND than a very underpublicized Husker squad this year.
I'd like to see us play in the Goody's Headache Powder bowl on Dec. 18 against, say, the Toledo Rockets. We need a bowl win more than a payday.
I hope the Gator takes the Huskers and that we make the trip to the Sun Bowl. I don't want to go to the Cotton Bowl either. Bowling for the Irish
Well heck, maybe we need to come to the Houston Bowl and play Rice!! That's be a good game. I can tell you that the inside scoop is that we will get the bid after we beat Syracuse, the USC game isn't even a consideration apparently. This will of course result in a firestorm of activity from Pitt assuming that Cincy is the BE champion that they have a better record and beat us at our place. Wanny's stache will ignite.
