Buckeyes walk away with another road win at Illinois 30-20. If you remember they stung us at home last year for our only conference loss. Our consecutive conference road game wins now stand at fifteen, just two behind the record of seventeen, held my Michigan. We played into a very hostile environment and were able to quiet the crowd early, thanks to a fumble early by Juice Williams, which resulted in a quick touchdown. Beanie Wells and Pryor had success with over 250 yards rushing in the game. Tressel really buttoned up his play calling, due to the weather and called a very conservative game. Beanie did another high jump over a, Illinois man down field on a dead run. The ESPN team televising the game could not believe their eyes. Don
Great win over a pesky Illini team on the road in nasty conditions.....the O-line played perhaps its best game of the year, Beanie is back to being Beanie and The Chosen One is progressing faster than I could have imagined and has become very, very special.....the expectations for this kid were off the charts coming in......he is way ahead of schedule and exceeding those expectations. Watch him chase Beanie on this run and get in the play at the end.....he's special. He has VY's gifts, size and strength, speed and athleticsm, but TOK I believe he is a much better passer than was VY at this point in his career. Didn't VY red-shirt his first year? Also, not a bad hurdle for 250 lb running back....
That was some play that Wells made with the hurdle. As to Pryor, I said way earlier in the season that he's the future and I would play him this year. He is going to be a great one if he doesn't get injured.
Bill, the kid is going to be very special.....however, in watching the video at the end of the play, he still blocks like a QB.....we need to work on his technique! .....or better yet, keep him out of harms way!
He's an awesome player no doubt. There doesn't seem to be many high profile RBs this year, I blame it on the Spread offenses to tell you the truth. Wells is terrific, LeSean McCoy is terrific and so is Ringer. The kid at Alabama is a load and so is Noshaun Moreno. But the QB's have been so dominant that the RB's are sort of an after thought. I have a question for you Ohio State guys. Do you think you would be 9-2 if Boekman had been the starter all year with Pryor just making cameo appearences? I've wondered if Tressel just looked at things (after getting bombed by USC) and figured that with his defense he could win the rest of the games maybe lose 1 more but more importantly not have to go with an inexperienced QB next year while he's rebuilding his defense.
By the way is it true that Woody once went for 2 against Meechigan when up by 48-7, and when asked why he went for 2 said because I can't go for 3?
Terry, I really question if we would be where we are with Boeckman being the starter. He had a serious habit of under throwing into double coverage. The story about Woody is true! Don
Funny, O'Keefe, very funny. Maybe I can start a thread about funny jokes over the Irish potato famine. Signed, Depressed in Cheeseland P.S. Given that Sheridan is probably going start again, the big question is will Tressel call off the dogs or whether 2008=1968.
Bobda, You can be certain that we ND folks feel your pain after last year, but I don't know if you'll get any sympathy from the Buckeyes.
imho, the season changed inexorably when Beanie went down in the seasons opening game. I think Tressel knows more about Boeckmann and his receiving corps than anybody and - uncertain of the extent of Beanie's injury and not having another credible ground threat - knew that the offense would struggle mightily without Beanie. He rolled the dice on Pryor, relied heavily on his defense while getting the youngster up to speed as quickly as is humanly possible, knowing that he's going to be a bona fide b!tch come bowl season with all the additional work and reps under his belt. What the kid has done since the week off after the Nit game is extraordinary......Tress almost pulled it off. He was a fumble away on a QB sneak late in the 4th qtr in Columbus from making it work...... My answer, all else equal, we have a better shot a beating PSU in Columbus at that point in the season with Boeckmann, but come bowl time, we'll be a helluva lot better with Pryor and all his reps under center. Boeckmann is a fine QB - led the conference in passing efficiency and was consensus first team All Big 10.....he can play. The Pryor kid is something altogether different...... However, none of that matter now.....it's that week.....time to get my swerve on....
Sid, I was hoping for some sign of compassion from BT but I fear his two-year war with MCG has turned turned his heart and soul to stone.
Ask and ye shall receive blue buddy of mine.....it's the best I can do this week. Next thread, I'll have to break out the music vids.....
