Buck Burnette a backup Texas center evidently made a post on his Facebook page after the election that was extremely stupid, offensive, and whatever other adjective you can come up with to describe dumb.

I got this off another board so I don't know if used the N-Word and it was edited or what, but even if that was what he wrote verbatim ....

He's been kicked off the team and has since issued an apology. How stupid can a guy get.

    Stupid Texas Player

Some think kicking him off the team was too much since he's apologized, suspend him for a few games, etc but not kick him off the team.

Here's the most rationale post about what was done:

Steal some beer or shoes, hit a woman, drive drunk.....no problem!!! But say something that is not PC and it's over.

Come on, Gip. Think it through. Stealing beer, hitting a woman, and driving drunk is not a direct affront to your teammmates. Yes, it does some damage to the team because it removes you from the picture, either temporarily or permanently, depending on the outcome. But in most cases it does not damage your relationships with your teammates. There is a huge difference here. He was speaking in a racist manner directly to every black person who read his comments, including his many black teammates. How do you repair that damage? I don't know the answer, but I'm guessing you can't. Once the words are out there, you can't take them back. I agree with the quote that Terry cited. He left the coach with no alternative.

I think Sids right, in the area of race right now when you say something like that you pay a high price. Just ask Michael Richards.

Sorry about having to watch the South Park intro, but this was the best quality clip out there.

When I was young my mother used to tell me "Sticks and stones can break your bones...." It was great advice. Occasionally I have to go back and read the First Amendment just to make sure I forgot what it said.

    I'm with gipper

You can actually commit crimes and remain on the football team, should not, or could not those crimes be an affront to a teammate?

The problem (among many) I have here is that PC isn't a 2-way street. I would bet that he's endured or faced many comments directly in his presence in the lockerroom and around campus....

What he said was stupid, beyond stupid.... I agree he should be punished...but we are all out of whack on this one.

Agreed. He could have let the team handle it.
