Is this the year that Mike Leach finally gets called up to the big leagues?

There are/will be a lot of high profile job openings after this season. Leach has built a nasty offense at a place that is VERY tough to recruit to.

Anybody think he'll get the call from a big time school??

I wonder what he could do at a school like Washington?

One thing I know: I won't be sorry to see him go!!!
    :p

I don't think so, even if he wins the NC.

    1. He has no personality
    2. Scott has implied there may be an alkyhol problem
    3. His teams have not been well rounded and lived on outscoring the other guy.
    4. His teams have really made there bones with cream puff non-conference games. I know most teams now days have cream puff non-conference schedules with teams like Coastal Carolina showing up. But he's gone the KState way of scheduling.

    I don't see it.

I think he'll draw considerable interest. Despite the fact that I agree with you, Terry, about TT not being well-rounded, high-scoring offenses sell tickets. When you can elevate a program like Texas Tech to #2 in the country (no matter how short-lived that ranking may be) you are going to draw interest. Whether or not he will get "the call", I don't know but I think he will draw tons of interest.

I'm not sure that he will want to leave though. He probably has a lifetime deal at Texas Tech. Expectations are not that great and he is proving he can compete at a high level there. He has built that program to what it is. I don't know if they can compete financially if a top program like Tennessee comes calling (don't think it's a good fit, by the way) but if they can come close, I think he stays.

    Terry,

I'm not sure being well-rounded matters anymore.
Right now in college ball the offenses are far outstripping the defenses, and if you can't keep up, you probably aren't going to win.

One big selling point for Leach can be that he doesn't need elite talent to be competitive. Long before this year they've given good teams a very hard time and were getting it done with recruits no one else wanted.

Oh he has a personality... he's a jerk. But winning cures all ills, and he's shown he can win.

I agree with Aquila he probably wouldn't be a good fit at Tenn, but I suspect he'll get a look from a lot of folks
And I'm pretty sure he'll listen. Anyone who has ever been to Lubbutt knows why.
Also, Tech will never have the facilities to go head to head with the big boys. Their stadium is a highschool erector set with a new paint job. They just don't have the support to make it to the top level consistently. Once Leach leaves, watch how fast Tech drops back. And I'm pretty sure he'll bolt when the chance comes...

I bet you that Schiano is looking for a one-way out of Rutgers right about now...
