I know most of you don't give two flips about this, but as perhaps the most scarring experience this program suffered in my life was the employment of this guy, this stuff can't be documented enough.

The mainstream sports media has flat out ignored facts, and in some cases, made them up to support Ty...This is not the best written article you will come across this week, but he does a good job of laying out factual timeliness in re Ty-Tanic.

    Wow. What a guy!

It's amazing how similar the talent Ty left at ND is to what Franchione did to A&M.

The diff being we have a few lineman around, but they are slow and lumbering.

Unfortunately for us... we don't have the ND glitter to quickly restock. It's gonna take us a while to rebuild the house...

Just a horrible lazy recruiter and a mediocre coach. I can't wait to hear Mike Tirico, John Saunders, Wilbon, Mark May, et al all crying about how it's such an injustice, that a white coach would have gotten longer, yada, yada, yada.

They didn't seem to care that Ron Zook got canned after 2 1/4 seasons either. I guess only a black coach is worthy of their sympathy.

I think Wahington's main motive in hiring Ty was to generate immediate, positive PR for the program after the oil slick left behind by Slick Rick. But, long-lasting PR depends on the quality of your product and Ty's last years at ND certainly suggested that he was not going to be a long-term success at Washington. As the line in Spinal Tap goes," There is a fine line between being clever and being stupid....

Interesting articles Corey. I have to say I'm glad Ty isn't at Florida.

Terry, Zooks firing was closer to 2 1/2 than 2 1/4 seasons. :) But I get your point.

However we did take a lot of heat for firing him. I wanted Zook to succeed, but he was never accepted by a lot of the fans and there was a lot of dissatisfaction with him after two seasons and after the loss to Miss State I felt he needed to go because he was never going to be accepted by many of our fans and the Gator Nation was tearing it's self apart.

But I was glad he got the job at Illinois and always check as to how he is doing. I think he's found a home and is much better off there and is making much better money than if Florida had never hired him.

Gotta go practice my bowling game.

I almost hope that UW doesn't let Ty go this year. I want everyone to see what 5 yrs. of piss poor recruiting does to a program. After all, the media outcry was that ND should allow him to stay yrs. because they'd allowed others such as Faust and Davey 5 yrs. The main difference of course is that Gerry and Boob were at least able to attract top talent kids in recruiting even if the coaching wasn't very good. It didn't take Lou long to clean up the Faust mess.
The Husky program is in a world of hurt right now. Last I saw their current recruiting class had few commits. When you see how coaches like Charlie are working on the '10 kids already you can see how it's going to take years to rehabilitate the wasteland that is UW football.
When Ty was let go by ND there were 2 schools of thought about the firing. The Irish side was that he was just not making the effort to build a sustaining top football program and his offense was less than dull. The other school was that he was a top coach who was mistreated by ND for racial reasons.
It's taken almost 4 seasons but the truth is pretty apparent. Any day now we'll probably here of Ty being let go. I wonder if it will be the second saddest day of Monk Malloy's life.

Terry, there's a 9:30am women's league at the alley, sometimes I meet a friend, bowling partner, coach to bowl a few games and usually go to lunch. Right now we scheduled my wife's therapy at the same time so that we only make one trip to town. :)

Hey I'm a believer in given people proper time, but also believer in cutting your losses short. Whether it was fair to Zook or not it was the best thing for both the university and Zook that his tenure was cut short.

I definitely don't put Zook in a category with Ty and think he was better off in the long run to go elsewhere where he had a better chance to be successful. And it looks like he is doing just that and the Gators got Meyer who in spite of the jerks on the net will likely be at Florida for a long time.
