Speculation on whether or not the Ohio State Buckeyes would red shirt Pryor or play him like Urban Meyer used Tim Tebow is over. Jim Tressel said that the will try to play him in the opening game with Youngstown State.

Vince Young, who he is being compared to, didn't play at all as a freshman. But then he left early for the NFL anyway so it wouldn't have mattered if he had burned that year as a freshman getting a few snaps in mop up duty.

    Pryor to play

It's always a tough call as to redshirting these days. So many kids who are the elite leave as soon as they can go to the NFL, you aren't going to have them for that 5th year anyway so might as well play them if they are going to help.

Actually I hope that someday the NCAA allows 5 years of playing for everybody. It would be better for the kids and better for the programs. The kids could play when they are ready and so many of them need the 5 years to get their degrees anyway.

If he can make a material contribution this season, I'm all for letting him play.....as you say, if he is advertised - or even close - he won't be around for the fifth year anyway, so why not get him on the field.

By all indications, summer camp evidenced that the kid is the real deal - with the added attribute of being humble and a very conscientious and hard working kid eager to learn.

Rumor has it that the staff has prepared a very limited package for him to master that suits Pryor's skills and could contribute in short yardage and goal line situations. Physically he's almost VY's clone - 6'6" 235 as a frosh with the same kind of jets that could take it to the house from anywhere on the field.....only he's a better passer at this stage of his career - but nowhere near yet a finished product! 8)

Pryor really stands out amongst the QB's. Primarily because he is the tallest of the three at 6'3"

    Don,

he's listed at 6'6' on the depth chart and we know he's taller than Boeckman who's listed at 6'4"....perhaps there is some inflation in the roster? In all seriousness, the real test is when you look at him standing near the offensive linemen....he's as tall as most of them - and that is pretty big.

    Buckeye Terry,

I stand corrected. I went back and read the article in the Dispatch and it did say 6'6".

I am anxious to see him get some playing time Saturday. However, Boeckman
still has the job nailed down. You can never shy away from experience.

FYI, Time Warner has finally bought into the Big Ten Network. Now many local fans can watch the games here on Time Warner.
