Massive amounts of money as ESPN buys the rights to all games not shown on CBS. I wonder if this means they will show all SEC games every weekend or what? I think our deal with NBC gives us around 9 million a year, we get some more money from when we play on the road, not sure how much though. But since all of our road games are on TV and most on Nat'l TV it's probably a couple of million dollars more. So we are probably up in the 12 million per year in TV revenues. So that's pretty great deal for the SEC that every team, including Vandy, will get 15 million/year. In contrast in a record year last year the B12 distributed of 113 million dollars to the members. That's about 9.5 million per team, not chump change but less than ND and way less than what the SEC will be recieving. I am assuming that includes bowl revenue as well, but not sure. SEC TV For Gator fans it's even better given their deal with the Sunshine Network (I think that's who it's with), it's an all sports deal and doesn't include live telecasts of football right though, right? Still it bodes well that the SEC in terms of cometiive facilities, coaches salaries, recruiting budgets, etc. The rich get richer. Terry
That certainly is a blockbuster deal and a great one for the SEC and its individual teams..........in 2008. I wonder what will happen in 2013 or 2018, when 2008 dollars aren't what they used to be, and prices for this kind of package have gone up. Time will tell. I wonder if the SEC will receive the same criticism ND received for its NBC deal. I doubt it.
Great! Now we can have "This week in the SEC" Just like we have "This week in the NBA" since ESPN signed a contract with them. I wonder if they'll keep reporting scores from non SEC games.
There is an article in the Oregonian yesterday taking the SEC to task over this. For the record, I have no problem with the SEC doing this. What this does do though, is make every SEC fan who has ever ripped ND for its TV deal look like a giant jackass. They are now making, per school, almost twice what ND will be paid per year I believe...just from this deal, that doesn't count the CBS contract...
There has always been talk of a Notre Dame Network for all sports. But I'm personally don't really care all that much for the idea. Since football is already on all the time and basketball is on quite a bit if you get the ESPN Roundball package. The rest of the sports I'm not that interested in watching unless they make the playoffs or something like that. There is much hope naturally that the new AD will get ND a rich new contract and stuff when time comes for renegotiation of both NBC and BCS deals. Inorder for him to be in a position of strength though Charlie will have to have the Irish as a annual member of the top 5 and competing for the BCS Championship game spot regularily to really have any strength in his position.
