I got these from BGI...... interesting stuff. My comments in red.... Robert Blanton: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"That ND was terrible and that they're never going to win a national championship" Pretty Standard stuff here Braxton Cave: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"Urban Meyer had me talk to his wife, so that was kind of interesting" Whoa, nellie! Urban's wife is pretty attractive, right? He's not using the strong "pimp hand"? Nah! I got the same story personally involving Carlo Calabrese, though. 8) Lane Clelland: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"When I called all the coaches and said I was going to ND and was getting 'Why are you going there' the whole time. When I got to Florida State, instead of bashing me, he said, 'To be honest, if there's anyone better than me, it's John Latina. He'll take care of you. All of you take back what you said about the Seminoles! Sean Cwynar: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"Somebody said that the Pope was going to buy out Coach Weis' contract so he wouldn't coach" That's actaully funny, in a heathen sort of way Michael Floyd: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"Always talking about girls" Definitely a strong pimp hand here. John Goodman: Interesting thing from a recruiter:"A Penn State coach called me and just talked a bunch of trash about ND and Coach Weis and didn't say anything positive about his own school" Breaking the Golden Rule. This tactic only works on the unintelligent Jonas Gray: Interesting thing from a recruiter:"One coach I talked to on the phone during winter said, 'Look outside right now. How's the weather for you? Here it's 70 and the girls are wearing bikinis. Do you like girls?' " The famed SEC recruiting gambit. Ethan Johnson: Interesting thing from a recruiter:"This one school was telling me about ND. They said, 'They have a priest in every hall. I wouldn't let my own son go there. You know, we have 2 great priests in our city. You can talk to them if you want' " The ignorance of this recruiting tactic cannot be over emphasized! Dan McCarthy: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"Don't worry about school. Just come play football." Look at college football grad rates. Start from the bottom to see who may have said this gem! Brandon Newman: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"Some people took shots at Coach Weis. Just unnecessary stuff. Pump up your school. Don't badmouth mine." More negative recruiting. Rarely works..... Trevor Robinson: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"Coach Latina told a story about a time he took his wife to a movie and didn't have much money. She wanted a pop. So he took the empty popcorn bucket to the bathroom, rinsed it out and filled it with water. I don't know how happy he'll be, but..." This kid is almost certain to be running laps on Day One Deion Walker: Interesting thing heard from a recruiter:"The craziest thing is...I won't say the school, but they told me that their academics were better than ND's academics" Must be an Ivy league school
I never know whether or not to believe much these kids say about the recruiting process. I remember a kid from Clemson say that Charlie said bad things about Clemson, it turned out that what Charlie did do was show him a spreadsheet on the graduation rates for athletes at the 5 schools he was looking at, and ND was at the top and Clemson was at the bottom. So when talking to a Clemson reporter he said Charlie negatively recruited against Clemson.
well.... some of these same lines have been coming out of kids recruited by certain programs whose coaching staff has been there a long time. you have to wonder... what are the odds that dozens of kids who aren't related, never knew each other and are from different parts of the country would all make up the same story? you give a lot of credibility to people who have never done anything to earn your respect, but you doubt the word of kids who have never done anything to lose your trust...?? i dont get it.
If you're talking to me. I never trust much of what kids say, they say stupid stuff all the time. Sometimes when I read what a kid says to a recruiting service for School A, then read what he says to a recruiting service for School B I wonder if they are even the same kid. I esp love it when announcing for a school whose academics are suspect and where few players, esp black players, graduate, say they are going there for the academics. Does he mean the lack of academics?? Then there is lyin Ryan Perraloo.
No doubt negative recruiting goes on all the time...I would hope that the kids can see through it for the most part and I naively hope that my schools don't participate in it.
well <t>again, you question the kid but not the source.<br/> <br/> recruiting service a<br/> <br/> recruiting service b<br/> <br/> kids form that opinion on academics by what they've learned from the staff and university. what are schools like LSU suppose to say? "We suck, you should totally go to ND or Stanford!'<br/> <br/> <br/> All these people have something to gain here, moreso than the recruit. they are the only thing in this entire process that, in the big picture, is disposable.</t>
What's there to question about the source. Guy from site A asks question, gets the answer and prints it. He didn't give the kid the answer. Again: I give you Lyin Ryan Peraloo: Lyin C.J.Leake, Lyin Lo Booker, and the list goes on and on... Obviously there are way more good kids, but they just say stuff that makes you scratch your head why they would even say it or bother to answer the question.
What I am saying is that recruiting guru A certainly predisposed to print stories with a certain angle. The same can be said for recruiting guru B. Ditto the coach. I'm with you that there are shady stories out there. What I am saying is that you seem to gave WAAAAAY too much credit to coaches when you hear the fans and recruiting experts alike both treat coaches being caught lying with a wink and nod... there is that 'well recruiting is a no holds barred kinda environment.' we wonder why so many of these kids lack character, look at what they are surrounded by from start to finish .
Irish Recruits <r>Corey,<br/> <br/> If they are Irish recruits, I believe every last word they said! Of course the other programs badmouth ND, they have been forever....if you are not ND you gotta come up with something to steer them away from the best decision they will ever make in their life right? It's hard to compete with ND unless you just can't pass an SAT, or in some cases even know what the SAT is! <br/> <br/> <br/> Anyway, we are 3o days away from the Beginning of the YEAR OF REDEMPTION!!!!<br/> <br/> Let's kick some arse and get some respect back boys!!!<br/> <br/> FLASH: First game score prediction NOTRE DAME 52 SDSU 13!!!! <E></E></r>
Another kid who's maybe not a terrific truth teller!! Brandon McGee just verballed to Miami: Recently this is what he told a FSU beat writer.
