Fact is the voters fall in love with certain teams. South Fla upset Auburn and everybody jumped on their bandwagon and rode them up to #2, a ridiculously high rating for them and they fell apart as a team after that showing how false that rating was....and recently due to some clever scheduling and good publicity Big East teams like Louisville, Rutgers, and WVA have also ridden the clever scheduling, and no doubt some exciting games and intriguing story lines to high ratings. The have made Thursday night games big time because of the way they schedule things so that their best teams can have good records and don't face each other till late in the year. Voters fell in love with Hawaii as well, an exciting team to watch, a fun team to watch and a team that you could not take litely...but a team that no way would have had that gaudy record had they played in the PAC10 instead of the WAC. Same thing for Boise State, that was a great upset of OU in the Fiesta Bowl, but I doubt if they would do as well in the PAC10, they might not be the bottom of the league but they wouldn't have had a gaudy undefeated record. I don't know who the voters will fall in love with this year as the underdog, maybe WVA again, or South Fla, or Fresno State, or even BYU who is supposedly one of the better BYU teams in recent years. Voters love Bob Stoops and OU that's for sure, he hasn't won a bowl game in awhile and in fact has been embarassed by good teams and cinderallas alike. But you can bet they'll be giving him votes. Nope, that's not what was written. Ranking a 1-loss WVA ahead of a 1-loss tOSU would have had merit given the strength of schedules played. Fact of the matter is .... tOSU was undefeated at the end of the regular season largely becuase of the ridiculously easy schedule it played over the 1st half of the season: 9/1 vs. Youngstown State (non-IA) W 38 6 9/8 vs. Akron (4-8) W 20 2 9/15 @ Washington (4-9) W 33 14 9/22 vs. *Northwestern (6-6) W 58 7 9/29 @ *Minnesota (1-11) W 30 7 10/6 @ *Purdue (8-5) W 23 7 10/13 vs. Kent (3-9) W 48 3 And again .... it's reasonable to conclude that many or most voters do not consider (when they SHOULD)the difficulty of a teams schedule when ranking them ... when one looks at the results of the last two BCS+1 games.
This is Rick's fault <r><IMG src="http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t134/artemisboy/TeenSteam.jpg"><s></e></IMG><br/> <br/> Kickoff can't get here soon enough</r>
What is reasonable to conclude is that the scores of voters do not consider solely what you would like them to consider and do in fact consider things that you would rather they not......common sense would suggest that given the geographic and background diversity of the pollsters that the process would have a somewhat broader perspective than the one provided though Gator-colored glasses..... Sorry Gaterz, it is what it is....better luck this year.
Gaterz, I am amazed at the amount of time and effort you put into your posts to make your points, e.g., researching Ohio State schedules and opponents' records. We recently covered the meaning of the word "obsession" as it appplied to MCG's preoccupation with bashing OSU and the Big Ten. I guess it applies to you also.
LOL, if you think it takes time to find, copy, and paste info from one web site to another ...... you mustn't be familiar with "Favorites" and search engines. And you do know that you can have more than one web site open at a time in a web browser? Hell, I've got six open now. One for yahoo, one for Fidelity, one with Gator Country, one with a map of Captiva Island, one with the NCAA stats .... and one for humor. And it's odd that what you might consider be obsessed ..... is really just being informed ..... or knowing how to quickly become so. Smile ... don't get personal and don't sweat the small stuff.
Thanks for the "kind thought" but actually .. .. voters who should have considered difficulty of schedule but didn't the last two seasons ... accruing to the benefit of tOSU ....... actually resulted in good fortune for both UF and LSU.
You know, it was only a few days ago that I would visit this forum and there wouldn't be any new posts. Today, they are coming in boatloads. This can only mean one thing: College football is less than a month away. That, my friends, is something we can all agree is a good thing. I just reminded myself of an elderly gentleman running for president with the "my friends" remark. That's scary!
....but of course they did Gaterz, as well as wins and losses. Just not consistent with your own biased view, hence the whining..... Re: obsession.....nice effort at rationalization, poor results.
I'm not convinced. Had the voters adequately considered difficulty of schedule played, the first two BCS+1 games would have been more competitive. Afterall, that's what so much of the, uh discourse on this site is about ..... better scheduling, more competive matchups.
speaking of plus one <r>I, for one, am glad Alyssa Milano was able to come up with a 'plus one' phase to her career.<br/> <br/> <IMG src="http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/schizophernicangel/alyssa1.jpg"><s></e></IMG></r>
FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE <r>No one wants to talk Milano..<br/> <br/> So we can talk about Florida... again.<br/> <br/> I'll start<br/> <br/> <IMG src="http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m228/snarecrazzy/gatorhottie.jpg"><s></e></IMG></r>
Since it's getting closer to football season and then some sweater weather .... blue and white ... she must been a Penn state fan?
I suppose I could be remembering things wrongly, but seems to me that one-loss WVa was going to be in the national championship...against tOSU...untill they screwed the pooch...who cares who was #1 and who was #2...they would have settled it on the field. It was a TWO loss WVa team that ended up being bounced, and a two loss LSU got the benefit. And we WERE NOT undefeated at the end of the regular season. And you ONCE AGAIN get snotty with the schedule of a team willing to travel out to the west coast to take on a PAC 10 team that was one of the powerhouses when scheduled. A team that CONTINUES to schedule good home and home series. Oh, I forgot...tired and old again...silly me.
