I have to smile that Rocco Mediate is leading the British Open. I hope he can win it, Tiger isn't there to do something heroic so maybe this will be his time!!

Phil??? +9 wowser. Furyk had a good day and wouldn't be suprised if he ended up in the final two on Sunday.

Rocco is not far from being in the top 10 to qualify for the Ryder Cup. Another good showing from him and he just might make it. Right now Norman is the story of this Open. Whatever Chrisie is doing, it's working. :D :D :D

How strange is it to see David Duval on the leaderboard?

Duval and Norman, it's like we've gone through a time warp.

I think I've read that Norman is a very good wind player...he'd have to be in those conditions.

How can you not be pulling for Norman? After a career haunted by opponents chip ins, hole outs and his monumental collapse at Augusta, wouldn't it be the story of the year in sports if he hung on tomorrow? And as for the other "top golfers" on the tour just how bad is it that once Tiger has to sit it out, they get whooped by a 53 yr. old who hasn't played on the tour in years?

Question: Why are they (the media) calling it "The Open" and when and why did they decide to remove the word "British"?

I would love to see Norman win this tournament, but I have a bad feeling.

He certainly played some great golf in terrible windy conditions today.

Thanks, Terry. That's very interesting and educational information. I did not know about the strong Scottish roots. I now understand that "The Open" is indeed the proper term.

Don't despair. It seems to me that of all the players on the leader board, Norman has the least pressure. After all, no one expected him to be here and no one expects him to stay there. He's absolutely loving it. Sure he has history haunting him but if he gets off to a decent start tomorrow, he just might pull it off. What a strange, historic year for golf.

    Gipper,

Maybe Greg Norman felt the pressure? He certain got off to a poor start and it sort of snowballed on him.

Too bad, but I am confident he feels worse than any or us who were rooting for him.

Saw an interview clip on ESPN, Norman seems to be taking it well. Even though he didn't win, he had to have exceeded his expectations by more than just a little bit. And Harrington firing a 69 out there today, well he just went out and won the tournament, Greg didn't blow it.

Kind of a busy day. Had to drive down to Indy this AM to be there to welcome my newest grandaughter Maggie Eileen Jenkins. Did get to see the back nine of the leaders. Looks like I missed the terrible start for the Shark. But Terry's right, Harrington played great and finished like a Champion.

Congratulations, Gip! It's great that you have a Hoosier granddaughter. It's like U.S. citizenship. Your daughter and husband may be "immigrants" to Indiana, but your granddaughter, having been born here, is a bona fide Hooosier.
