Stu, Don, Terry, Whobedis....you guys unhappy with this system. It's essentially what ND alums have to do to get tickets every year. At Texas it's a system where you have to essentially be a member of the Longhorn Foundation or you have no chance at tickets and even at that your position with regards to tickets has a lot to do with your level of contribution to the foundation. At one time before Mack arrived they didn't sell out of season tickets and you could buy individual game tickets at Ticket Master which was in grocery stores in Austin. We didn't sellout many games in those days. I think at Texas A&M it's the 12th Man Foundation, but I don't think A&M sells out of season tickets so there are some single game tickets available, Scott would know more about that. Ohio State Alums Upset Terry
Terry, I have not purchased tickets for a number of years, so I am not reacting one way or the other. There are just not enough tickets to satisfy the demand. This was sort of a test to give all alumni a chance for tickets in a lottery. No seniority, just enough points to qualify for the lottery. 90% of the games were non conference games and early season games before the students return to campus. Obviously many long time purchasers on the seniority system are really upset. Newcomers, who have never been able to purchase tickets were happy. It is a no win situation for athletic ticket office in trying to satisfy the demand for tickets. Don
I think it applies to all the "regular" alumni; that is, those that are not members of the higher giving levels. I donate to the school every year, but not enough to qualify for the President's Club...I think you have to donate $2500 per year as a minimum giving level to qualify for season tix.
Stu is right.....the new policy is one that applies to members of the Alumni Association. President's Club, Buckeye Club, Varsity O, etc are not affected..... They have a massive problem......50,000+ students, 5,000+ faculty/staff, visiting teams get first dibs.....the above giving organizations get next dibs, and then there are 125,000 dues paying alumni fighting for what's left over.....and it ain't much. What to do? Anything you do is gonna piss somebody off. Glad Archie's in charge and not me....
I'm curious. Do you OSU guys know how the Big 10 works out the visitors' tickets in terms of how many and where in the stadium? I'm guessing that it's a uniform practice among all the member teams. ND provides visiting teams about 5,000 tickets, some in the upper reaches of the stadium and some behind the visitors' bench on about the 5 yd line.
Terry, This is not factual information, just my own observations. I would say the 5,000 figure is pretty close. Seats are always in poor locations beyond the end zone and down low, making it more difficult to see. Don
I would think that 4-5K allottment is pretty standard across college football. You got to give if you want to get or something like that.
Sid, as Don suggested the locations of the visitors seats at Ohio Stadium seem to be similar to the ones dispensed in South Bend. High and as far away from the field as possible and down low near the end zone behind the visitors bench.
Wow... a lottery? That would definitely piss me off if I'd had tickets for a while. We do have to be members of the 12th man foundation to get tickets, but as Terry said, we aren't sold out of them yet so aren't having to come up with creative solutions. A&M uses a point system that combines years of giving with amount given along with a few other factors to arrive at who gets what. The more points you have, the more perks/opportunities you get. In the Big XII, 4K tickets are "required" to be alloted for the visiting conference team. I don't know if there's any requirement for the OOC games. Texas and A&M used to give each other 10K, but that died out a few years ago...
Probably depends on who the OOC opponent is as to what is allotted to them. I'm guessing that OL-LA-La doesn't get jack, while big name OOC opponents like ND wouldn't agree unless you gave them a 4-5K slice of the pie.
