    Jonathon Bender was signed directly out of HS and was forced to retire at 25 because of arthritic knees. You might think that he was not prepared for life after basketball, but you would be wrong. His story is a refreshing counter to the thug-related crap that so often grabs the headlines.

    Sounds like he might have had Osgood-Schlatter disease. Nice story. Bet we'll hear a lot about him in the future.

    I had Osgood Schlatters disease at age 13. They put a cast on both legs from my ankles to hip. Was not able to do much for 4 months. To this day...60 years later my knees have not been the same. These days they dont do the cast thing...they just prescribe exercise.
