Bet the IRS wants to know as well!!  Settlement I was sort of ambivalent on this, on the one hand I was hoping that he would be held to the terms of his contract you sort of get tired of these contracts being not worth the paper on which they are written. Schools all the time thing they have their coaching situation stabilized with a good solid contract only to have their coach jump ship. On the other hand when my school needs a coach I don't mind if we get a great prospect who is leaving another school in the lurch. However in this case since he was going to UM, I say screw it he should pay the full boat!!
You wonder about the long term effects of this case. For instance, I'm willing to bet that Larry Brown and Bobby Petrino will not consider coaching at WVa.
Yeah who knew that they had actual lawyers in WVA. I thought it was mostly couch burners, moon shiners and farmers!! This is from the Detroit Free Press Very suprising that UM is going to pay part of his buyout and his legal fees. I can't remember when a University has ever agreed to pay any portion of the buyout. The UM basketball coach is having to pay his own freight with regards to the buyout. Terry
I think it's smart what UM is doing. I assume first of all that RR told them about his WVa contract when they were wooing him. I'm sure that their response was "Don't worry about it, we want you and we'll take care of you if they push it." Additionally, when UM is on the market in the future, potential coaches will be much more likely to favor them over schools who hold grudges and sue coaches like say, WVa!!!
Leave it to the Skybox co-consigliare (along with Bobda) to think of the angles that we mere mortals cannot comprehend.
Article in the Detroit Free Press not too complimentary of Rodriguez, is this writer known to be a UM antagonist? Embarassing Ordeal
No the writer isn't a UM antagonist but I'm not surprised that we haven't seen articles on the subject by Albom. On second thought, he's a UM slappy. Never mind.
Huh, I thought I posted on this topic. What I read was that Rodriguez will pay $1.5 million and Michigan will pay $2.5 million plus lawyer fees. I wouldn't be surprised that if Rodriguez is successful that he gets the $$$ back in the long run in the form of bonus's or raises. Also he doesn't have to pay his part for several years.
