    WOW! And the legend grows.....

I truly, with every fiber of my being, hope that he's done nothing that will prevent him from returning back to his magnificent form. If for any reason, he's unable to get back to his former self, it would represent one of the great tragedies in sport. Meanwhile, will somebody talk the PGA Commish down from the ledge!

Somebody's going to win a nice paper weight called the Fedex Cup. Speaking of cups, the Ryder Cup is really going to be a bummer this year.

Everything related to the PGA will be a bummer this year. He's the greatest; now we're just watching the pretenders.

I wonder if he played in the US Open against the advice of his doctors. If so, he is a very foolish young man.

One thing in his favor will be his age. I truly hope he comes out of this surgery and is able to compete on the level we all have enjoyed.

He absolutely did play against his Doctor's advice. He said that Monday night.

I was all set to go see him play in his AT&T Invitational at Congressional in three weeks. I'll just watch it on TV now.

On the Golf Channel they said that in addition to needing an ACL repaired he has two stress fractures in his tibia, diagnosed two weeks ago.

So he just won the US Open with a torn ACL and a broken leg. I would say Paul Bunyan legacy is in jeopardy.

I throw this out only because of my legal backround.
Tiger indicates that he first hurt his knee while jogging before last year's British Open. Since that time in 3 majors he's finished first twice and runner up once.
I'm betting he has a disability policy. I'm betting it pays a shitload of money. I don't know for sure but it may very well have an exclusion for work related injuries. (those are usually covered by workers compensation) So if his injuries relate back to "jogging" he may very well be able to collect on his policy.
We may hear nothing about this. Or, an insurance company may want to contest the claim. If they do, and they have policies on other PGA players, it may be penny wise but pound foolish. Just one facet of this whole story.

I hope that he did injure his leg jogging...if it was injured from the tremendous torque placed upon it from his golf swing then he may continue to have problems.

I can't imagine that Worker's Comp would cover a professional athlete, but what do I know...you certainly would know more about it than me, Gip...and I don't have a clue what kind of disability policies are carried by athletes.

My point wasn't that Tiger would qualify for Workman's Comp. it's that his disability policy might be like many others ie. it excludes work related injuries. I think that as to the PGA Tour, players are considered independent contractors. They're responsible for their own insurance. Of course, the Americans with Disabilities Act applies because our Supreme Court thinks that walking 6 or so miles is just the same as riding in a cart.

There was a good graphic in todays Chronicle (not available online) showing Tigers problem. He already had cartilidge damage and was going to need an ACL before the season started but wanted to see if rehab could do the job and let him play. But the extreme torsion his swing puts on his left knee and it's instability has resulted in more cartilidge damage and those stress fractures.

I wonder if he's going to make any swing changes to protect the knee?

Seriously the guy is so talented he could probably switch to left-handed and be back on the leader board in six months.

Tiger's Knee hasn't been healthy for 10-12 years, damn I wonder how good he could have been with good wheels....Mickey Mantle comes immediately to mind.

Tiger needs a new swing coach...I've got a real bad left knee (arthritis and torn meniscus) yet my golf swing doesn't bother it at all...all he has to do is learn an "all-arms" lumberjack cut swing with no lower body turn...it's good for a consistant 220 slice into the woods except when overcorrected and yanked into the water.

Take the driver out of the bag and replace with the foot wedge. No problems.

Speaking of drivers, I bought one of those new Ping G10's, tried to hit it for a month but I never could get it to work for me. Kept hitting a low hook, went back to my old Cobra (5 years old) and hitting it pretty well, so much for the new equipment. I am going to take the G10 to a club fitter though and see if it's a shaft problem. The Cobra has a custom shaft, Fujikura, supposedly the right torque and kickpoint for me, the Ping is stock. The Ping's shaft is also about a inch longer, don't know if that was the problem though. Somebody told me a lot of the new drivers are comming with closed faces which counter the typical tendency to slice for your average hacker like me. I just know it was a bad move. Worked great at the demo day that I bought it at, you don't think they have rigged clubs and balls do you?? :)
