Two embarassing moments for the local teams.... First, my Yankees. They are actually playing pretty good ball lately. Chin Ming Wang, the winningest pitcher in MLB over the last 2 1/2 seasons, tears a tendon in his foot running the bases against the Astros. He is probably out for the year. Everyone in New York blames this on poor conditioning. Everyone except Hank Steinbrenner, Jr. who blames the National League. This boob has already made a season's worth of childish, stupid comments and we're not even to the All-Star break. Then there's the Mets, perennial second bananas in their own town. Last night, after a victory over a very good Angels team, on the road, 3000 miles from home at 3:30AM ET, Omar "The Tent Maker" Minaya fires Willie Randolph and two of his coaches. Presumably they will all be replaced by three additional Hispanics and the team will be re-named the "Flying Burrito Brothers" .
Not a good 24 hours for NY baseball. Who'd a thunk that Hank would be even more of an idiot than his dad? That possibly was the most stupid statement I've ever heard from an owner of a baseball team. It shows how out of touch he is with reality. In my lifetime, I've learned that second generation wealth (George) rarely is as competent as the originating generation. Now we have the third generation (Hank) showing how inherited wealth without the work required to earn it breeds arrogance, which in turn leads to embarrassing conduct. As far as the Mets, the court of public opinion is crucifying the management today, and IMO it's well deserved.
Maybe the Mets will hire Cecil Cooper away from the Astros. He sat his best player and 2 other starters for the Sunday game vs the Yankees, then had the audacity to call out the team for not giving it's all against the Yankees. Hey Coop...giving it your all means playing your best players you dope!
Jay Leno, on the news that Hillary Clinton's campaign cost $212 million: "The last time anybody spent that kind of money to come in second -- the New York Yankees."
