    Rays taking to the Yankees.

Jays taking it to the Sox.

Injuries taking it to the Tigers.

I wish I could blame the Tiger's miserable performance so far to injuries but quite frankly, it's a total team flop. Middle relief is awful. Starting pitching isn't good enough. And the vaunted Tiger offense is pathetic. The best player so far has been Inge who the Tigers tried in vain to trade this spring.

The season is not yet a week old and people are talking like it is mid-September. Each team plays 162 games. We've only just begun.

To put it in a little perspective, the last Tiger team to win the WS started out 40-5. Anyone see a difference with that at 0-5?

I'm not about to say it's "Ovah!" Sid, but I couldn't help but notice those same story lines from last season (several seasons for Sox and Yankees, it seems) occurring again.

I've already mentioned it to Joel, but a healthy Toronto poses a serious threat this year. They have good starting pitching, and the addition of Rolen and the little Eck could be huge.

    Rick,
I actually agree with you about Toronto's prospects this year in the AL East and the continuance of last year's story lines re: Yanks/Rays and Sox/Jays. I was referring more to the comments being made in the media about the Tigers, who were (according to the media) pre-destined to be the team to beat in the AL this year. Now the media is pushing the fact that no team has come back from 0-5 to start the season and won the WS. Think about that. What they are saying is that you can stick a fork in the Tigers. They're done. I find that laughable. It may turn out to be true, but you can't make that kind of assessment less than one week into the season.

By the way, who's your friend?

Oh my! I sure don't see any resemblance between her and Peter Fonda. She's much more "animated".

There's a movement afoot to rename the Detroit baseball team from the Tigers to the more appropriate 135 MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF CRAP.

And they're already 7 games under .500. I'm pretty sure no team has ever been that far under .500 this early in the year.

Sort of off topic...but here's a video of Irish pitcher (Wade Korpi) taking a 100mph batted ball off his head. He's OK from what I hear. I'd be curious to see how Corey trains his pitchers to try and avoid this, if you can avoid it.

Tigers win, 7-2, despite getting only one more hit than the Sox and committing two errors. The game was on the verge of getting ugly at one point, but the Sox got out of a bases loaded jam with a double play.

No team has ever made the playoffs after starting out the season 0 and 7. So either the Tigers will make history or based on historical precident, they've eliminated themselves from the playoffs in the first week of the season.

Astros were something like 15 games under .500 at the all-star break the year they went to the WS with the White Sox.

Mike Lowell on the 15-day DL. The back-up third baseman seems pretty capable, though.

I'm really glad Casey is available to play first base.

I like Casey. When he was with the Reds, I took my two oldest grandsons and son-in-law to a Reds game. During a lengthy rain delay, he was the only player who came up out of the dugout and signed autographs. He signed the bills of both grandsons' baseball caps. A real first-class guy.

He's capable of giving you as much - or almost as much - production as Lowell. He doesn't have Lowell's power, but he is a consistently solid hitter. Obviously you'd rather see Lowell back ,but you're not hurting at all with Youk at 3rd and Casey ay 1st.

Casey was player of the game (3 RBI?) and they just interviewed him on the post-game show. I've read about how well-liked he is in baseball and he certainly comes across as an affable guy.

Casey was really popular here in Detroit. When the Tigers played the Cards in the WS 2 seasons ago, he was by far the best player for Detroit. He has a lack of power for a 1st baseman and is so slow he needs a triple to score from second. Still, he can hit, hits in the clutch and is a real class act.
