Here's some of the things Weis said today at his press conference. My only question is that with Sharpley spending time with the baseball team and the only other QB being Jimmy Clausen, I wonder who's going to help with the WR drills. I guess Ron Powlus can help, but what will the WR's recievers learn from over thrown passes!! [/quote]
Sam Young from 287 pounds to 330 pounds? Is that all muscle or is that to much weight? Sounds like a busy spring.
That's a good question Bill, I don't know how those Lineman can gain all that weight in muscle alone.
Bill He started last year at 309. Looks like he gained back what he lost and added 11. Knowing the ND dining hall, that's quite a feat.
It's the training table. The prescribed diet for OL and DL is different from the diet for RB, WR, DB, etc. The big guys probably eat the kind of food that builds mass.....lots of carbs, etc. The skill guys probably get a higher proportion of protein. Like Gip said, he probably quickly recouped his original weight of 309, then from there he added 21 lb. which was only 6-7% of his original weight. Even as a walk-on, my son participated in the weight training and training table. He went from about 170 to about 180-185, which was about an 8-9% gain. the key for the bubbas is to balance strength, mass, and foot speed. The key for the skill players is to increase strength without sacrificing speed.
Thanks guys. I have always had an interest in Young and Wenger. Both are from Florida and a lot of people thought they would be Gators. I wish them luck.
Gip arrived at ND at 155 lbs. Despite not being allowed at training table, Gip managed to slowly build body mass using sophisticated training equipment. Most popular was the can opener and the telephone which managed to put me in touch with the local pizza place that delivered to campus.
