I didn't go to the Toyota Center but I saw what was televised, it was a jam packed arena....like a Rock Concert. His speech was again powerful and compeling. I have heard enough of his speeches now that I recognize the basic elements, the reference to his up bringing, the defining of hope, etc still very powerful and I don't think I've ever seen a delivery quite so powerful and compeling. He may never have to actually say what his policies are, his persona and the image he is commanding may be enough for the electorate.
It seems like his style has mesmerized everyone. But sometime down the road I hope his supporters start asking how he intends to pay for all his pie in the sky dreams.
If he ends up as the Democratic party candidate, he will be one on one with McCain. During the campaign, two things will happen IMO. First, he will be forced to provide details for his promises. Second, if and when he provides those details, the conservative Republicans will see how relatively conservative McCain is when compared to Obama.
I would think that Hillary at this point desperately needs to show Obama as an empty suit and that she is the gal with a real plan. So I would expect that she will try very hard to make it clear tonight that she has actual plans and that he doesn't...if she can. Both she and Bill have been saying that on the campaign trail in Texas this week, now she has to make him look like that empty suit that they say he is.
Good point Sid. For McCain to have any chance at all he has to unite the ultra conservatives in his own party.
The New York Times story yesterday on McCain could backfire and cause serious harm to the Democrats if theallegations cannot be proven. One thing is for certain, McCain will be wearing his American flag lapel pin from now on everytime he is near Obama.
Anybody starting to get uneasy about this guy? He is on the verge of nomination to the presidency and no one can cite anything in his past to recommend him nor can anyone really say what his platform is. He has given us glimpses into his strategy which is heavily dosed with the repeal of existing tax breaks and the institution of new taxes aimed at the "wealthy" which no doubt includes most on this BB. And now his wife is encouraging the youth to take public service jobs instead of entering into the corporate arena. Interesting comments from a lady who earns well over $300K as a hospital administrator. Classic socialist claptrap from a rank amateur politician who the media has made a star.
Unless you really follow politics, read any position papers on their websites and spend a lot of time checking these guys out, most of us really just have nothing to go on except their Words. Which unfortuneately for most of history people running for public office are long on saying but short on producing once they are elected. That Gov of Louisian, Bobby Jindal, however seems to have already made good on some of his promises with regards to reforming the way business is done in Louisiana. But you have to admit that the fact that he's gone as far as he has and is likely to go further is a reflection of the desperation of the American people to find and honest leader who will seemingly look out for them rather than fat cats.
You're right, Terry. I desperately look forward to Bush's last day and I voted for him 2x. But was my vote for him or against the two nincompoops who opposed him? People are looking for someone to lead us out of the wilderness so to speak. It's hard to fathom that these choices are the best we can come up with.
George, Poor choices are all that we will be able to come up with because the American people, as a whole, are filled with a sense of entitlement...the truth??? We can't handle the truth. We want promises that sound good and don't want to face any hard choices. We all want whatever government can give to us without paying any price. The most that we can hope for is to elect leaders who will minimize and slow down the damage, rather than accelerate it. Geez that is pessimistic. :?
